I'm just wondering what alot of you guys are using for Pick Ups on your Strats? And why?

I'm looking to switch mine out on my project Strat so I'm looking for ideas and would like to hear what you guys are using. But more importantly why you chose to use em.

I'm only asking about pick ups you have switched out from stock. Not the original ones that came with her when you bought it. Unless its a custom job of coarse.

So lets have it guys. What are you all using??

Dimarzio Area 67's in the neck and middle positions with a Dimario Virtual Vintage 54 Pro in the bridge. I like the sound of single-coils but for my style of playing I need something with just a bit more thickness. The Dimarzio vertical humbuckers really do sound good.

I've always felt there are two criteria for choosing a pickup. The first is you choose a pickup based on the sound you want. The second is you choose a pickup based on your style of playing.

On my Squier Strat, Texas Specials. I like them because they have a huge beefy tone, yet they're still very Strat-like. They're my favorite pickups.

On my MIM, stock. I'm still debating whether to go with Tex-Mex pickups or Lipstick pickups.

Dimarzio heavy blues 2 in the bridge and pro54s in the neck and middle with a maple board american strat. I picked those pickups because i wanted versatility ie not just all out rock and not just clean twangy, and i felt that stacked singlecoils would give me a good balance between both. The heavy blues 2 is hotter in order to get more into the heavier rock spectrum but avoiding being too metal (i don't go beyond 80s levels of distortion) and the pro 54s remain single coilish but more rounded and woody sounding i guess - warmer than a modern regular singlecoil but not fat with that punchy midrange like a humbucker

I've used "Texas Specials" and "Original '57/'62" pickups when I couldn't go with the stock vintage pickups.

Today, if I had to buy a set of pickups for a project (new build or restoration), I think I would buy a set of "Tex Mex" pickups.

All DiMarzios'.Both Strats have a Super Distortion in the bridge and a 36th Anniversary P.A.F. in the neck. One of them has an Area '58 in the middle position along with the above pickups.

Alnico Chrome tubes on the std. strat. Love the surf tones it puts out.

DiMarzio Super 3s on the HM Strat. Doesn't really get played, I'm not really a shredder.

Dimarzio Area 58's in the neck and middle and an Area 61 in the bridge. No noise and nice tone. IMHO

I went with EMG SAs on one of my strats, basically because I love the David Gimour sound. I am extremely happy with the result. They are extremely quiet (no hiss), and very loud (high output). I feel the guitar is very versatile and I love the tone that I get from it.

I have a 2nd strat with stock 60s reissue pickups, but If one only had one strat, and wants to keep that classic strat tone, say like hendrix or vaughan, the EMG SAs are probably not the best choice, but otherwise I think they kick $@!.

And if you want Jimi's or SRV's tone, you'd better have a good tube amp.

I use the stock Alnico 3 pickups that came with my Highway 1 in the neck and middle position. I recently changed my bridge pickup from the alnico 3 to a Dimarzio Super Distortion. I just wanted more umph when I play. Here is a pic:
