Hello, My old old man has just bought a 50th Anniversary Deluxe Strat, Oh yes she is devine, however we both do not know how the locking machine heads work. Call us stupid, or call us "old school" can anyone shed any light on the subject ? I have had a browse on google but cannot pin point what I want to know, i.e How do you Re-String and how effective are they in keeping the tune of the string?

You are a good man !! Many thanks for that !! The biggest benefit to my father buying this new strat is that he has passed on his 40th Anniversary Strat to me (there is a god!) Do you reckon it would be worth investing in these heads for mine if so which brand would you recommend ? Once again many thanks for your info.

My locking tuners I have on my guitar has done the following for me:

1. I had an annoying issue with my G string not staying in tune...fixed.

2. I can now change strings about 5 minutes faster...I do not have to ensure 3 revolutions of string on the tuning pegs to ensure proper tuning.

3. If there is any work to be done on the guitar, I do not have to waste a good set of strings to gt under the pickguard...just loosen and un-lock them.

Everybody had ideas about how a Fender should be...IMO it should be user friendly. Ultamately it is your choice. I really like the Fender/Schaller locking tuners.

They are so good they ruin you for life. When you have to change a guitar that does not have them you will slowly start to curse under your breath. I see no reason why you should not put them on your 40an model as long as they fit without having to drill. If you have to drill DO NOT as you will destroy the value of the ax. If they are the same size just put the old ones in a ziplock bag.

I have Sperzel locking tuners on one guitar, and vintage-style tuners on the other. I like the locking set because they make it easier to change strings, but that's about it. The other set of tuning pegs are every bit as good in all other respects, so if it were me it would be mostly a cosmetic issue. If the locking tuners look like they belong there, go for it if you want, but as Straycat says don't drill into your guitar... it's not worth it. Remember not to over-tighten the screw-wheels on the locking tuners, or they'll lose their effectiveness.

I have em on my deluxe, schallers are they? I also have some auto locking wilkinson/gotohs on my frankicaster. I prefer the deluxe's.

Hello Strataholic,

I was checking them out at the summer guitar show.
Very nice product, they seem well made, not chinzy.

Maybe Santa will stick em in my stocking.

Cheers.

You can download an owners manual here under the Support tab, Manuals. There's some useful instructions on locking tuners.
