I bought one of these brand new in 2006 - great guitar.

The mahogany is really nice - but come on guys...don't get these confused with a les paul just because it's got some mahogany and a humbucker...this guitar has a voice all it's own

In response to your question re the Americanese of the SG. If it has USA stamped on the back of the headstock it was made in the USA. I don't think Gibson makes any GIBSON brand instruments that are not US made. If they're foreign then they're Epiphone. But you might get better answers at the mylespaul.com forum than here in the fender forum.

I went through this with my Guitar Center 60th Anniverary Telecaster.
I couldn't find it on the site! Why was I looking there when I had the axe in my hands you ask? For the same reason all of us that ever bought a new vehicle like to see the adverts. on TV! HEY that's WHAT I GOT!! WOPPIE!!! then comes the payment book and buyer's remorse; well that's life! ANYWAY....
I e-mailed Customer Service at Fender and they told me FSR means "Fender Special Run" That identifys a guitar as a limited edition, probably made for a store axe that you won't find on the site.
My concern is shouldn't it BE on the site?
I mean the parts, wiring, and the serial number? How can a collector prove it's a FEnder if it's not on the site? Brad, help please?

Does it have the Fender logo? Does it look like a Fender? Does it sound like a Fender? Does it play like a Fender? Well then, it MUST be a Fender! What is there to prove?

I went to play this guitar at the Guitar Center in Jackson, MS and I was very impressed with the quality, sound, and appearance of the guitar. I have been looking at replacing my beginner's guitar with a more professional guitar. Out of the six guitars I played (Schecter, Ibanez, PRS, Epiphone), this guitar was my favorite and was a lot better. I really was looking for a guitar with a lot of versatility and balance, but I also wanted a guitar that was great for rock and blues. I play classic rock, modern rock, metal (not heavy metal), blues and Christian music. This guitar is especially great for rock and blues.
The single coil pickups put out a crisp and distinct Strat sound. The S-1 gives the guitar a lot of versatility. If you put turn on the S-1 switch, the sound becomes more brighter and sustained at a higher boost. If you switch to hum canceling position, the sound is warmer and great for chord and power chords. I really love the humbuckers. They add a lot of tonal range to the typical Stratocaster. The sound is much more warmer and great for clean sounds. The humbucker is even great for heavy distortion sounds.
I like to a play variety of music so I was looking for a guitar with a more balanced sound. The mahogany body adds a new sound to the Strat without robbing the Strat sound. Compared to average Strat, the sound is a little darker but still contains the Strat sound. A lot of people do not believe Strats are good for heavy distortion and fast playing but I did not find it in this guitar or the American Strat HSS (Hendrix played a Strat!). The notes can be very distinguished for solos but are also well balanced for chords in distortion or clean.
The only thing I do not like about this guitar was the frets protruded a bit too much. This problem could be fixed rather easily or someone might get used to it. Also, I do like the appearance of the guitar but I wish it had more selection for the finish. If you are into heavy metal, this guitar would most likely not suit your needs. On the other hand, if want a unique guitar with a lot of versatility suited for rock and blues, this guitar is awesome. I have been playing guitar for five years and I am really looking forward this guitar in the summer. I will be saving up for it and hopefully Fender does not decide to cancel it by then. Overall, I was really impressed with this guitar and I would highly recommend checking it out.

They have been around for a few years. I've dinked around with one a bit at a local shop. Sounded pretty good. Didn't care for the black headstock, but a nice guitar.

I just got one today :D I had a VG Strat that had a problem with bleeding through when the volume was down (still had volume coming through)

So they gladly let me return it, and asked if I wanted another one, but I'm scared of the VGs now.

So they had gotten the Mahogany in since I bought the VG (thursday) It was $500 more but it's a ten times better guitar!

The tone is darker from the mahogany body, which is cool with me. I have 2 other deluxes and really don't want every guitar I have to sound the same.

To me it's still a Strat sound, just different -IDK. The diamondback HB, I'm going to have to look up the specs. It sounds like an Alnico II or III to my ears. I may drop a JB or something like that in it.

But looking at the switching combinations----WOW. This puppy can do it all!!! I thought my SSS Strats with the S1 had versitility. This one has those beat in that area. Not an either/or thing - just different.

I love it

I believe it is a Factory Special Run (FSR). It is a beautiful guitar. I bet with the mahogany it sounds good. I have not had the pleasure to put my hands on one. If I was in the market for another guitar, this one would be on my list to try out.

Let us now what you decide.

As a proud owner of this strat, I can safely say that it is truly unique. The mahogany wood and the tex mex pickups on mine produce a very unique and awesome tone. The neck is fast and the LSR actually helps with tuning, though I did have mine set up by a pro. I think this guitar won't be confused with a Gibson, but it does have some balls...

I played one in a store through a blues delux (i play w a bl jr) and have never gotten the tone I wanted untill then, Then the price was right at 1000 (one year ago) ang now they've gone up to like 1300. I dont think it will be hard to get one if you act pretty quick, but this would be a GREAT investment guitar as they ARE a limited production
