Well, you might be right about that. Its more like $750 new. But the point is the same and even more so if he wants MIA. He doesnt need to spend $1700+ for that guitar. There are many varieties of vintage reissue strats, new and used, OEM or partsocaster, out there for much less that that.

To BigJay's point, I posted a link to an ad the other day had a mint MIM 60s series for $300 with a hardshell case. The seller did not list it as a 60s, but it was obvious by the color (lake placid blue), neck, headstock and tuners.

No returns accepted means there is something wrong with it in my book. I would also like to see more up close pics of it for that kind of cash. I would veer away from that find.

I have bought 18 guitars on ebay of which 2 were sent back. So I look at those odds as great. As long as it says ( Pay with paypal and full purchase price is covered) you have nothing to worry about. The thing is you have to know a few questions to ask and no matter what you are safe. I have printed this before but I will do it again for anyone who wants to buy from ebay. I 90% of the time look for a guitar that is NOS=new old stock which means for those who dont know a guitar that is brand new say a 2007 that a store never sold or someone selling a guitar mint. Now I usualy start off by asking the seller are there any Dents, dings, chips, scratches bucklerash any stress cracks in the neck joint, how are the frets and has there been any mods. Now you will be surprised at how many guitars are listed as mint and then they will say I just looked it over again and just noticed a slight-------- fill in the blank. I usually ask the same question twice. Now after you perchase the guitar and something is wrong you can send the guitar back as COMING NOT AS DESCRIBED AND YOU ARE FULLY COVERED BY PAYPAL FOR THIS. Now this has only happened to me twice. Once where the guy just tried to get over and one that was close to me keeping but the frets were to worn down and I did not want to spend $350 on a refret. Both times I put in a claim with paypal and my money was quickly restored in two weeks. The other 16 times the transactions went as smooth as a babies $@!. The guitar you are looking at is a beautiful guitar but you can find the same one 2 to 3 hundred cheaper. The thing with ebay is that everything looks so good. That is where you have to learn to be patient. Companies like Fender and Gibson are the easiest to get a great deal from because there are thousands of listings compared to a smaller company that only has a few hundred . So if I were you I would punch in Fender Stratocaster american the put a check in the box that says-Include Title and Description as that will add a couple of hundred more listings. Then systymaticly go through them all and when you find something of interest click Watch In My Ebay. Just for Strats you are going to come up with close to 2000 listings so coffee and smokes come in handy as this is going to take some time. But believe me you should come up with at least 7 deals that are off the chart. Today I put up a post in the forum and asked if anyone had ever done a deal on one of the guitar forums which I have never done, as it is playing Russian roulette and if you get burnt well your burnt unless you want to hunt someone down across the country. I an still pondering doing it as I checked every post the guy was ever on and every deal he was involved in and they were all good but there is still that feeling of no protection of your purchase. I advise you to go for it if you find something you like . There is also what Big Jay said of building your own, which is something I would love to do but I have no talent in that department as some of our fellow forum mates do. Some of the guys on here are amazing with there hands. Mine are only good playing a guitar as i dont think I have ever even removed a pickguard . GOOD LUCK AND DONT BE IN A RUSH,

I absolutely am NOT going to give advice on whether to buy an individual instrument or not.

But Mr 1962 says he has played the guitar and it "spoke to him". Usually round the Forum we tell people that is the ultimate quality to look for in a guitar. If you've found it, well...

Self-build is an excellent way to go, for all the reasons BigJay mentions. I totally agree.

But you gotta be up for it. If you just want to play, not tinker, well that's perfectly respectable too. And if a guitar you love has come along...

Ebay. One out of my 30-ish experiences went bad. That's all I can offer on that one.

My thoughts - C

All guitars should be suspect on the Bay. All Gibsons, Fenders and even Ibanez has a warning site. The higher end guitars are the most profitable for a thief. Be careful. Unless the guitar is local and you can see it, and the person has 100% feedback I'd pass.

Hello 1962,

$!,650 seems a bit optomistic for that guitar.
I've seen em for about $400 less at guitar shows.
The truth is there aren't a whole lot of em out there.
That Ebay ad had the shops phone number, so give em a
call, talk to the person in charge see what kinda deal you can make.
Ask if you can have a few days for inspection.

Best of luck on your quest.

Cheers.

There is no reason to get all worked up because you are looking at a guitar on Ebay. Look at the photos. Reputable people supply very good photos and will even email you additional photos if you request them. Read the item description. Ask questions. Look at their feedback.

No need to get in a tizzy about it.

I'd keep looking. A guy on Craigslist in Georgia had this exact same guitar for $850.

If I were buying a car top carrier I might buy it off ebay. Never a musical instrument.
