Hi, I'm a 16 Guitar/Bass player, i have a semiacostic guitar and another one both with humbuckers, but they don't sound as i want: I'm an huge fan of The Edge of U2 and Mark Knopfler, and I wanna buy a Strato. My budget is not so high, I was thing about a 70' mexican strat or an highway one, maybe an American Standard, but too reach sounds such as U2 which is the best strato for a low budget?

PS: I can easily change pickups if is needed

Thanks

All 3 are good Strat's. For a pickup upgrade buy the MIM '70s Strat.
HWY1 and Standard are American made so no need to improve them.
All three are good for U2 music, don't forget a Echo device a Chorus and
a good amplifier.

I have 3 DD3 Pedals :D didn't foget them :D. Just seen a player's deluxe strat on ebay, is it good?. Do you know what kind of strat (the black one) has The Edge?.
What means MIM?

If it has the big headstock it probably is a '70s Strat.
MIM = made in Mexico.
Never played a Deluxe so can't tell ya if it's good.

U2 has used many guitars in his career, but I think his most famous signature sound was Stratocaster single coils. Usually his guitars seem to have a high resonant peak, i.e. have decent to high brightness, so I'd pick something like a Stratocaster with vintage single coils. Also, most the '59/PG+ combo guitars (Seymour Duncan pickups) Fender seems to make have decent brightness as well. Still, I'd recommend a Strat for U2 sounds, or at least a pickup that's clear and bright.
