I really want to get a nicer bridge (and block) in on my MIM Standard Strat. I'm having some minor issues with the stock one, mainly string buzzing and lack of sustain. Right now isn't the time for me to buy one, with my Dad out of work and all, but I need something to look forward to for Christmas. :)
Plus if I start looking now I'll have plenty of time to read reviews and make my choice. I'd like this to be a really good one that lasts and doesn't give me problems, so bang for the buck isn't as big an issue as overall quality. So any suggestions would be great. :D

Oh, and I don't really care what kind of saddles it has. The vintage saddles have never really bothered me.

In a word: Callaham.

But for the Mexican Standard I think you will need the narrow version. Call Callaham and they will ask you what specific model of Strat you have and take it from there.

I havent looked back since I put it in. A very good trem. Not a good trem for the price, just a very realistic and good price.

I just scored a real Fender American series gold plated bridge for 160 Australian and it is so heavy and well built you also get the claw 3 springs and the arm, what impresses me is the weight and build of this thing.

String buzzing at the bridge???? Don't you mean at the frets????You may want to perform a complete set up before you spend any money. You may find the buzzing dissappears, and in turn, sustain increases.
Callaham bridges are truly excellent. If you don't have the cash for that, I have purchased some inexpensive trem bridges from Guitarfetish that have worked very well for some repair work I have done. Not Fender original, but if that is no problem, check it out.

Paisley's got a point. A crappy bridge might not give the sustain you are looking for but surely there's no reason why you can have a setup with no buzzing.

Well, it's kind of complicated. I had a complete set up done last month, and it was about a week after that when most of strings started buzzing. I took it back in, and my tech had to preform a quick fix so that I could have my guitar back before the King of the Blues thing. It worked and none of the strings buzzed for a while. But now just the G and B strings have started buzzing again, both fretted and open. Something was up with the saddles (which he fixed) but the neck needs to be readjusted. I don't trust myself trying to mess with a truss rod, so I'm dropping my guitar back off today and hopefully it'll be ready before the finals on the 10th.

I don't think the buzzing is because of the bridge now (that part was fixed), but I still would like to get a more solid trem block and I might as well get a better bridge while I'm at it.

I heard that Callaham is now making a direct replacement for the Mexi bridges.

The block from Callaham is great. I replaced the stock one in my MIM a while ago and it's great.

As far as the buzzing, are you sure that none of you saddle height adjustment screws has worked itself lose? I noticed that once or twice over the years. Maybe a 1/8 to 1/4 turn of on of the height adjustment screws fixed it up.

I had trouble with my Callaham. It does not fit all of the mexi strats and your trem bar may not fit. Also the block was shipped without the nylon spacer for the trem hole. The issue is not being addressed and if you buy like I did from Acme you are stuck. They refused to let me return it even after many emails and pictures showing it does not fit.

Buy the GFS one someone else posted a link here I believe it was from Guitarfish they show two different models depending on trem hole placement for mexi bridges and are a fraction of the Callaham price. From everything I can see they are better made. Just trying to help some one else not go through paying for something that is lacking function.

This is why I recommend calling Callaham. There is a very pleasant lady that usually answers the phone and if you tell her what specific model of Mexican Strat you have she will be able to help you.

I know nothing of a nylon spacer in the block hole.

Absolutely my thinking on the callaham but without the problems. Theres better out there for a lot less. The wilkinson fits anything, has a better arm fitting and the inertia blocks string holes are positioned better.

Definitly another vote for the Callahams, I'm using them in both my strats. I did use a Wilkinson 6 hole Vintage style bridge about 6 years ago on one of my earlier Strats but I didn't like the look. I know some might think that's petty but I'm a stickler for the old school look on my Strats.

The whammy bar will certainly fit. Why wouldn't it? I've got two Callahams with great fitting bars. Did you order the pop-in whammy bar when you ordered the bridge? You don't use the Fender bar, you use the Callaham.

You don't even have to screw it in. It just pops in and your done. You can screw it in if you want.
