Has anyone made the switch from Ernie Balls to GHS Boomers of the same gauge?

I'm wondering 2 things. Whats the difference in tone/sound?

and are they as easy to bend as the Ernie Balls? Because I find the Ball strings very easy to bend. And I like that.

My new Strat came with the Fender Bullets on her and they are tearing up my fingers. Not sure why. They are not any thicker then what I have been playing on my Squier Strat.

I currently use the Heavy top/Skinny bottoms. I like the way they sound but wanted to try something new. That's why I am looking into the Boomers.

Another GHS you might want to try are there Precision Flatwounds. They have several sizes even .009-042's which you don't see that often.

I have used a lot of different brand name strings. I actually went from GHS Boomers to Ernie Ball. To me they just played better. Ernie Balls are a little brighter to me. I really got sick of getting the ball ends out of the Fender tremolo so I started to use Fender Bullets with my Fender and Squier guitars.

The MIM Standard uses the Fender Bullet 3250L which are Nickel Plated Steel. I like the Fender Bullet 3150L which are Nickel Wound (E, A, and D). I find they bring a warmer tone. The G, B, and E strings are still steel.

Just try as many strings that you can, you'll find the right ones for you.

GHS Boomers are awsome!! Been using them for years. I use TNT Boomers, 10-52 on all my guitars.

I love boomers, and still use them for the most part.
(I haven't tried them on my Ibanez AF95 yet.)

But I used Ernie Balls.

I found Boomers feel cleaner on my fingers, sound brighter, and last longer.

I use Boomers on most of my guitars. They are pretty easy to bend, give a big sound (to me) and seem to last a long time.

I love Boomers too. Recently went back to them after about 20 years. I use the .010 guage sets and I really like the feel, tone, and reliability. I haven't broken a string yet as for when I was using DR's I was breaking strings sometimes just putting a new set on and stretching them.

Do you guys notice much of a difference in the sound from the Ernie Balls to the Boomers? If not then there is not really a reason to change. I like the EB's I've been using. But was thinkinig about trying the Boomers because I've heard they are good for a SRV type sound.

hmm, makes me curious to try some Ernie Balls. I've always used .10 Diaddario strings. Though honestly I don't think I've ever used a string I didn't like or thought was bad. (well maybe the Blue Steel ones I tried like 15 years ago, lol.)

Strings are a funny thing. Some people swear by some and others don't care as long as they have a set on. Me, I hate EB's and Dean Markleys. Used DiAddarios for years but just fell out of love with them. Switched to DR's until I started breaking them all the time. Now I'm back to were I started some 25+ years ago.

ahh Dean Markley, that was the company that made those Blue Steel ones. It was bugging me that I couldn't remember.

One of my students uses those I think they're DR strings and they're black. Which would be cool, but the black seems to rub away within a day or so.

I'd love to see some in neon green or purple.

Diaddarios have served me well for a long time though, and I hardly ever break them, even with 1.5-2.0 step bends.

I think I remember the GHS strings breaking alot which is why I first tried the Diaddarios in the first place. I never notice them sucking or breaking so I guess they're pretty good. They work for me.

Always was a little curious about the super slinkys though.

I used EB for quite a number of years and switched to GHS Boomers about a year ago. I think the boomers are louder and are built to higher tolerances. They seem to bend better as well. They seem to put up a tad more resistance than the EBs that I like... I just like they way the feel and sound better than the EBs.

An article in the current issue of Premier Guitar makes a point of stating that new strings contribute to better tuning and intonation stability. Lasting a long time would not necessarily contribute to the aforementioned.
