I own a 2000 or 2001 Mexican Stratocaster, and would like to buy the pickups that come standard in the American Stratocaster (the $1,000 model) and put them into my Mexican Strat.

Will this work, or is there some sort of difference in size/shape/electronics that will prevent me from doing so?

Thank you for your help!

I was also wondering if it was worth to swap the mim pickups for a set of am std ones or is the difference not a big deal? I've got a set of am std pickups and was thinking about putting them in the mim.

I have an American Standard strat and really like the tone of them.I would recommend going to a store and play the American and a MIM side by side and it will give you some idea on the difference.Keep in mind that there is more that comes into play than just pickups. In otherwords , the American pickups wont sound identical to the American Strat because there is a little difference in construction, but it will give you an idea if you want to go thru the trouble or not.

That's some of the wisest advice I've ever read on this forum.

You could bring your own guitar and amp to the shop if they don't have the same as you own.

I have a 94 MIM. When I bought a 98 MIA, I put the american pickups in the MIM, and put a JB Jr and two lace sensors on the MIA.

The MIM was always nice, but was much better with the MIA pickups. That should work just fine with you too.
