this is similar to how masterbuilder Yuriy Shishkov started out. He couldnt get to handle western guitars in his youth (in one of the former ussr states). He copied pictures of guitars he saw in smuggled in magazines. His cellar was so small he had to open the door to fit necks. It was so damp he had to put bricks down in the winter to keep his feet out of freezing puddles. He got to america and started work for washburn on quality control. He kept going to the washburn bosses with drawings of improved designs to their guitars. They eventually promoted him to their equivilent of customshop, where he built guitars for diamond darrel amongst others. Despite not knowing more than a few words of english.
Examples of his work here.

OMG! I didn't know that my favourite replica (BLACKIE) is made by him! Wow! Thanks people! Well, i don't think I'm gonna be a luthier. I'm too lazy. But maybe I will make another Strat. And Yuriy Shishkov's first guitar was much better than mine. But thanks for possitive emotions ;)

Go on you can do it.

From what i've seen of polish people that laziness wont last long either.

Hey! Cut the ends of those strings off or you're liable to wind up with one sticking out of your eye ball.

this thread is like one of those: "Triumph of the human spirit." stories.

Loved reading about the russian standing on bricks in freezing water to make guitars.

Here's a video showing my guitar in better quality. Me playing River of Tears by Eric Clapton - very amateur, but tune is quite good ;)

I've made a simple amp called "Little Gem" for this:

:D :D

Jack in, switch on/off, gain, volume. It sounds much better than costs. I did this cos I wanted to have an amp for trips. :)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Well, I'd like to thank allo of you, guys. Yo were right. I've made my second guitar, this time - for my gorgeous girlfriend. I'm sorry that this is not a Fender-based model, but you were really kind to me, so I think that you would like to see my second guitar - LP. I'll show more photos if you ask ;)

Well I'm gonna go ahead and award you 50 points!

To not only make a guitar from scratch, but build your own amp as well is an achievement worthy of praise in my book.

Well done sir!

Andy

Talk about pulling something from thin air.lol You really did a great job and I am shocked at how well the tooth picks held up as frets. The pup is definetly on the money. Just wondering if the guitar was tuned on the G-B and high E as it seemed to hold tune some what on the bass strings up the neck but the high strings were out in every spot. I would love to see what you could do with a $200 budget.
