I guess what I'm looking for is a Humbucker for the bridge that I can switch to that will cover heavier distortion along the lines of Guns & Roses through Metallica. Everything else will be on the neck and mid Tex/Mex pick ups. I do want the pole pieces to show on the HB. The soap bar look will throw off the look I want for this project.

I was thinking about the SD APH-1. I know it will handle the Guns & Roses type stuff. But can it handle the heavier Metallica type music?

What other HB pups should I take a look at that will cover heavier Rock and some metal?

I wouldnt look at seymour duncan pickups for any kind of driven playing. I've tried JB's, Jazz's and invaders. They all sounded as bland as hell when driven. Decent clean, rubbish driven.
For the sound you want i really cant reccomend anything other than a EMG 81 or 89.

I was understanding the game plan here until you said you wanted to play Metallica with a single coil in the bridge? Definitely a humbucker would serve
you better for high gain music. I`m not saying you couldn`t do it but I would think the noise from the single coils and high gain settings would be a pain.
Tolerable at home playing levels and intolerable at performance levels.

I would use a noiseless pickup of some sort for the bridge if you want the SSS look.

I didn't say that. I want to use the singles for cleaner tones and the HB for the heavier stuff.

I just bought a new Strat and because of the amazing deal I bought a HSS model instead of the SSS I was looking for. So I will be replacing these pups. Then I want to put these into my old Squire Strat to improve her sound. So I actually have 2 questions.

First- My Squire is a SSS config. It is a 2002 20th Aniv model. So I'm hoping to be able to move my HSS pups from my new strat to this one. Does anyone know if the routing on the Squire will fit the HSS pups? (I"ve never looked under the hood on her so I have no idea) [quote]

Guess I can`t read? To me it looks like you are moving the HSS setup to a squire. Why not just ask what humbucker would be a good replacement for the guitar you just got? Think I`m done with this one good luck!

Sorry if you took offense and for any confusion, but that is what I was asking. See my post from 2 above your post.

I should have mentioned this before but I am looking for the bridge pick up for heavier stuff mainly for rhythm guitar. Not lead. I lean more towards rhythm guitar over lead.
