I have a Highway One and a MIM and they both have C necks, but I have also had a chance to play U shape and soft V necks, and love the feel of these necks too. Anyone have preferences? I wish Fender would make some affordable strats with these neck specs.

Absolutely agree. I've fallen in love with my treetrunk baja tele neck. Its thicker than popeyes forearm all on a £400 tele. Theres no strat in that price range with similar.

My MIM has a C neck that feels really nice, my Squier has a chunkier neck which sort of feels like a '62 RI only narrower. And I like V necks too, someday I'll get a Strat with one. I like pretty much any Fender neck that I can get my hands on.

U-shaped necks happen to not be my cup of tea. Naturally, of course, as I have rather small hands, but I can adjust fairly well to pretty much any neck shape, especially after that G&L I've played. Go C-necks!

I am partial to C necks, but I have played a Clapton V, and loved it, also the fat neck on a Nocaster i banged away at( a reissue of coarse,) was pretty sweet. I guess that's a 'U' shape. ( I actually dreamt of that guitar the other night. I might have to see about a payment plan.)

i have an Ibanez with one of those necks that give you a paper cut, they're so thin. I love shredding on it, but I can't play it for hours at a time anymore, my hands get tired. Funny how that didn't happen 20 years ago lol.

I love thick necks for bending, not sure why.

I have played on old 50s V necks and the newer C necks. Both are nice, but I like the C necks a little better. Especially since they come on much less expensive models.

I'm a fan of the C. The one on my 94 MIM seems a bit thinner than the one on my 98 MIA, but they both feel great to me.

I played a deluxe mia that has the v neck that I liked a lot though. I could not put it down for about an hour.

Me too, they just seem more comfortable that way.

Soft "V." I knew it the second I picked up the first one I ever played. Perfect for me.

Its the way your hand grips it. You hold it more circularly like you were gripping a cricket bat. When bending because of the circular hand shape you bend from the wrist rather than the fingers.

I wonder if my high tolerance for thin necks is from spending 7 months a year for my entire childhood holding a hockey stick!!

That makes sense. i kind of suspected the same, more distance between thumb and fingers during clamping motion = less energy.

The most beautiful neck I have ever seen is an SX strat neck which I own and about to place on a partscaster. This neck is made in china but the quality of the lacquer and maple is unbelievable. The lacquer job is really thick but smooth as silk and as hard as a rock. The neck looks like it has been dipped in amber and seriously want to score more of these if I can.

Careful Vin. SX guitars have a shaky rep. some good, some not at all good.

You might not get another as good.(you might, but it's a crap shoot.)

Yes orville I have read about the inconsistancies in sx guitars but have been fortunate in buying a great neck and one complete guitar and this thing is amazing. It is totally silent no hum the neck is low action and the sound is fat and warm as well as bell like. And it is black and white and I paid 120 bucks without case.

For me is more important the neck finish for the feel rather than size except some of the thick U shaped giant gibson necks. I played a lot of different size and profile necks and got used to them very quickly. IMHO nothing beats the rolled edge + satin finish.
