Hi All

Well I finally made it back home to Egypt and would like to report back on the shipping results of my guitars. I had previously raised this issue and would like to report back. The guitars were shipped via marine container and they all arrived in excellent condition.

The journey in total took 52 days from Maryland to Cairo, from July 10th to August 31st, it was hot and humid. RH in Cairo is over 60% with a temperature of around 35 Celsius. I don't think the trip through the Mediterranean would be substantially cooler.

Here is what I've done

1- I placed at least one dampit in the sound hole of my acoustic guitars and covered it. I left the Electric guitars with no added humidity.
2-I covered the guitar cases with plastic and then cased it with corrugated paper with bubble wrap (also has some plastic on it). I guess this kept the humidity regulated as long as possible and protected the electronics and pots.
3-Placed the case in a cardboard box and sealed it.
4-Placed the the guitars in the middle of the container away from the steel walls and any unnecessary heat (that could cause neck warps).

The results were fine, all guitars came in pristine condition, my American deluxe Stratocaster was in relatively good tuning (my Larrivee L-05 vine however, was in near perfect tuning. The Gibson Songwriter deluxe (rosewood) was totally out of tune, and the Breedlove SM200 was relatively in tune).

Cheers and thanks for all the forumites who helped me with my predicament.
Hisham

Congratulations and welcome home. I am glad your guitars all made it in one piece and with no major issues.

I shipped a couple guitars only 800 miles by air, and I was a nervous wreck when I opened the cases. I can't imagine the stress of shipping them to another continent, especially when it would be very hard to replace them or have them repaired.

Glad it worked out, and they're all right.
