Has anyone with great ears and good chops done a serious, detailed side-by-side comparison of the Fender VG Stratocaster and Line 6 Variax on the various similar models?

One of the constant moans about the original Variax was its not being a truly hot quality / playability guitar and. "L6 should have teamed with G or F to put Variax guts in a 'real guitar'."

Now, the VG is an active-catalogue-item memory and the Variax still around, so there's something "not right" in this mind, about the VG failing.
