Any reason to be suspicious of the hole on the front of the headstock that looks to be for a second string tree?

I can't make them out but is there any significance to the stamps on the bottom of the tone block?

The metal looks like the salty air may have gotten to it. It also looks like it was repainted quite a while ago- the body cavities are bare. The dark areas on the neck almost look like it was near a fire and the smoke darkened it. It also looks like it was left outside for a long time but the combination of the dark neck and heel plate makes me think it's from highly corrosive hand sweat.

the paint does real thin, my old 84 japanese strat paint could stop 2 bullets lol. Jimi's burnt strat looks better then that scrap.

 Poor Eric...I wonder if this guitar is related to Vinny's 53. Some of the solder work looks a little too shiny to me. CV glad you posted those other pics I learned something from that. Strato I didn't see the hole on the headstock till you pointed it out good eye. If I ever buy a "vintage" Strat I'm taking pictures and putting it thru the gauntlet here before money changes hands...Another partscaster exposed

Don't worry about Erik... his bread and butter is shifting replacement necks for the Ibanez RG series guitars. Lovely pointy things with shark's tooth inlays, they are, and no doubt easy to manufacture in South East Asia where he is based.

What is the round metal plate on the neck joint? Is that for the Strat's that have that Micro-Tilt adjustment?

Hi 357mag: yes it is. American Standards and Deluxes have a smaller version of that metal plate to this day. Otherwise, the end of the microtilt screw would just bore into the wood of the neck, instead of raising it.

Cheers - C

Yes that should be sitting in a round bore hole in the neck not one routed out from heel end in.

The neck looks like it was given to someone who does oil changes in a garage for a living and played it in between cars. And that paint job like Slapchop said is way too thin for a 70s ax.

I own a 73 Strat and it has been played pretty hard since i bought it in 83 ..It looks nothing even close to that guitar..It shows signs of wear but that guitar shows pure abuse..There is also a lot of things on that guitar that i have to agree with other poster that just don't look the same as mine..I will see if i can get a decent picture taken and posted so you all can compare..
