How close are '08 MIM's to the standard original strats of the 50's...

My honest opinion is that strats these days are far superior to their older Theres been 55 years of strat. 55 years to discover whats good and 55 years to suss out whats bad.

As knopfler said 'why worry?'

The new ones are very different, more refined, and have about 55 yrs of bugs and tweaks addressed.

They look different, play different, feel different, sound a bit different, and have less problems.

But, there's still something about having an original one that's just got that old vibe to it.

Do you mean the MIM Strat Standards or the JV, Cray, etc?

yeah the MIM standards compared to the "same" model of the '50's era.

'Think Niki has it and the comment about vide is worth it too.

'Personally hold, a nice new MIM which calls to you is fairly close (but more refined) than the same experience from a 50s-60s instrument then-new.

One thought on vibe tho; 'have met a goodly number of old instruments which had NONE. Were they owned by afs-hose or maybe never had a great instrument-personality to begin with?

On one hand, I see very little difference in the designs of a new MIM Standard and an old original Strat; truss rod adjustment placement being an improvement on the MIM, ceramic pickups not an improvement.

On the other hand, there are differences in manufacturing (tolerances, finishing, etc) and materials (wood and plastics quality, etc).
