It looks great! Now for the $64,000 question: will it intonate properly?

Is the distance from the nut-to-12th-fret the same as the distance from the 12th-fret-to-bridge-saddles?

The truth is... there is a half inch difference favoring the nut end. If you look futher back in the thread you will see that I knew it would be off. In fact I managed to reclaim an inch of the difference I knew it to be off this past week. Unfortunaley this is as good as this one will get.

I'll make notes on the acoustic properties of this design, pull the parts and applied this gained knowlegde to the next attempt. All part of the fun! 8)

Yeah, I read it. I was wondering whether or not you had recovered.

Experimentation is good. Let us know how it sounds.

Well here she is: Image

I did a quick set up and well, lets just say that setting the intonation on it is gonna be difficult if not impossible.

Monsiuer Thumbs

Would you like me to try and make you a recessed nut? I recon i could get up to 1/8th back on the nut?

It may help a little.

A most generous offer Niki, but I must decline. In looking back I now see that I have made a couple of grave mistakes with the design of this guitar. Mainly with scale, but also with my choice of bridge.

The good news is that I had expected this to have some snags and was mainly for the sake of experience. I can easily take all of the parts from this project and apply them to a new slightly larger box (which I already have in my possesion). having to do little more than route the new box, it should go pretty quickly.

I did notice the necks your attempting to construct and would like to point out that I already have the parts for a tele style CBG, with the exception of a tele neck. Perhaps a swapping or combining of parts could be arranged?

Alas my friend i think i've bitten off far more than i can chew with the neck build. Only this morning did i make a near fatal mistake on the cut. Only my missus's common sense and eye for detail came up with a solution and stopped me binning it. I'm really thinking of ditching the idea. If you want the slab you can have it, but postage would cost more than to buy it.

Funny how woman have that knack, eh?

Well at very least take a stab at finishing the one you've started before totally bailing on the project. I'll pass on the maple slab offer for obvious logistic reasons.

I've been on the look out for vintage oil cans. I've been told they are fairly easy to come across in my neck of the woods.

Well after a day of scratching my head, fiddling with jigs, planning, scrapping and replanning, I may just get somewhere. If i manage it, your welcome to one.

There ya go! I tell ya what, we can do a swap. I'll trade ya a neck for an oil can!

As far as my CBG goes. I'll be gutting it and starting over as it has now passed through the hands of 3 trusted techs. All of which agreed it cant be intonated. The twelth fret is at the tenth and the fith is at the fourth.

I'll just chalk that lil snaffu up to experience and move on. 8)

Since all I have to do is route out a new cigar box it shouldnt take long at all!
