I'll be milling the mahogony tone block this evening. The neck should be here Thursday. With any luck I should be able to plug it in by saturday.

Nkay. My mahogony block fell thru. So I cuised around the local shops till I came up with a beat up Poplar body which I cut down to just the neck pocket and bath tub pickup route. I doubt it will contribute much to tone, but it should keep everything stable so it will keep tune.

Thanks for the heads up Invader, but I actually found a guy on ebay who was willing to negotiate a deal on his custom made necks. If all goes well he'll be a good source for future CBG necks.

Mr Thumbs

What are you planning for scale length? Is this going to be a regular size guitar? I've never seen one before and am intrigued.

Now where can i get me a good wooden box?

Aye! It will be full scale. I'm using a strat style 22 fret neck. in all there is only a 1 1/2" difference from bridge to nut than the length of a strat.

As far as boxes go. Any local cigar shop sells empties for $3-$10. But, dont restrict yourself to cigar boxes. You could use near anything from oil cans, ceiling fan bodies, to briefcases. Your imagination is the only limitation with these puppies!

I still need to transfer the neck pocket to the cover of the box and route a trem access hole in the bottum. The neck should arrive either today or tomorrow.

Watch that 1 1/2" difference mate. It may be an idea to move the block insert forward a little to get rid of the difference and keep the scale length of 324/5mm 12th fret to bridge.

Castrol oil cans here i come.

Actually, its 1 1/2" short, not long but I see your point! Since this is a prototype I expect issues. Especially with intonation. I just want to get this done and get an idea of what I can expect acoustics wise. If intonation is a prob I can strip all the parts and start over with a new box. All I'll be out is a couple of hours of measuring and routing.

Mahogany tone block complete! all thats left is to wire and bolt it all together. Then its just a matter of waiting on the mail ordered tuning machines.

Cheers Niki! I thought ya might appreciate it. Still no word on the tuners (serious bummer) as she is otherwise complete.

Yeah, I guess I'll spend the next few days figuring out a means of getting some sound clips uploaded to the net.

Looking good mate. I've the design for the oilcan sussed out. The exhaust pipe guitar looks to be a winner too. My drummer reckons the exhaust pipe could even be used for a neck too. My idea was for a 1 piece slide guitar, but i think I'll run with his idea of pipe and muffler box and see where it takes me. Pictures soon on that one.
