Is the classic player 60 Strat close to the same quality as the 62 hot rod?

If I can go for hot rod is there that much of a difference?

If I have a 94 standard - how much of a difference one would either make?

I know that's alot! Thanks in advance!

All Classic players are the top of the line for MIM guitars. They are all close in quality so try them out. You still have to make yourself happy!

Hi 1962: I'm not going to discuss quality - that's too much of a minefield!

But the Classic Player '60 and the Hotrod are from very different parts of the catalog, pricewise. The CP is around the upper reaches of the Mexican line, whereas the Hotrods are near the top of the American factory's output. Check the prices with some online retailers to get an idea.

And there's miles of difference in their specs - look at their pages on this website and compare their pickups, bridges, fingerboards, finishes - almost everything, really:

CP '60:
http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0141100372

Vintage Hotrod '62:
http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0100140846

Click the "specs" buttons on those pages for details.

And a '90s Standard is something else again. They're all Strats - but pretty different within that model.

Cheers - C

Play em both. Every guitar is different and has its own "personality."
Generally speaking, a MIA will be more consistent in quality due to tighter tolerances, but every once in a while a MIM will pop up that rivals if not surpasses a MIA in quality. The hot rod will have the nitro finish, have IMHO better pickups, and it will hold its resale value better than its MIM counterpart. As for the MIM, it will save you money (always good lol). As for the difference between that and the 94 standard, IDK never played a 94 standard ^^

And I'll always use Frank Zappa's quote when this type of question arises:
"When you pick up a guitar and it says, 'Take me, I'm yours.,' then that's the guitar for you."

Played the hot rod today and it was great. Every pickup selection had a great sound. Really beautiful guitar. My 94
has a selection or 2 that seem useless.

Next up- CP60s and AV62.

I love the Classic Player line. I have the 50s, 60s strat and the Jaguar.

I bought the 60s strat early on and got the 69 custom shop pickups (supposedly signed by Abigail Ybarra). I think it's been changed since.

The guitar rivals any Amercican or Custom Shop. I would just say maybe some of the parts are not as high quality, but I've never noticed.

My 60s plays great and is a keeper! As a poster above said this is the top of the MIM line and is close to equalling USA.

Do the current CP60s come with the custom shop pickups?

Fender specs says this:

3 Custom ‘69 Single-Coil Strat® Pickups with Grey Bobbins

But notice it says Custom instead of Custom Shop.

Many people on other forums have commented that it seems they no longer come with "Custom Shop" 69s.

I would call Fender Customer Service to find out. Contact info is under Support Tab on home page.

Fender says no change - same pickup as the day it was launched.
