Hahaha!

Don't worry - there's a new model coming quite soon! Just waiting for certain supplies to be delivered - and for the purchase of a new air compressor.

Missed a good deal on one Nikininja recommended (the Aldi one, Nick). And yesterday I missed a knockout bargain on Ebay by about $3. D'oh - I amost never lose something I'm chasing on Ebay! Heck, I may have to go mad and buy one at regular shop prices...

We'll get there...

Cheers - C

I've no idea what you're talking about, really, but it's surprising what turns up at Aldi. There's a remote island — Kangaroo Island — off the coast of Australia that's home to the world's last remaining population of pure-bred Ligurian bees, and the honey they produce is one of the country's strongest candidates for a Slow Food certification that would put it in the larders of well-heeled connoisseurs everywhere. Through circumstances too Byzantine for me to recall (or describe, even if I could), Aldi was the only retailer in a position to shift the disputed Ligurian bee output, and if you visit a store here and buy some honey from their organic section you are purchasing the fruits of the labours of the world's last pure strain of Ligurian bees.

Admit it, you needed to know that! :)

Ceri — do you employ any last-second bidding software? I've had a much greater success rate since I started using it (there are some decent free ones), unless bidding goes way beyond the maximum I'm willing to pay, of course.

Aldi is where you are too, is it? Do you have Lidl as well? I thought that was the most scuzzy possible Euro-shopping experience, but Aldi is even more depressing.

BTW: that honey you are talking about is sold in very expensive health-food type shops where I live. It is amazingly pricy, so I don't know what it tastes like!

No, I don't have software, but I am usually very good at being the annoying guy who places a terminal bid in the last second of the auction. Not this time, though.

What happens if two guys with bidding software come up against each other? Is it an Ebay bidding arms race, all carried out in the blink of an eye? That would explain why that Squier bridge I sold went for $72,000...

It's the Rise of the Machines!

I must admit, I hadn't intended anyone to be hearing about it today, either... Still don't actually know if it can be done.

That's a very kind offer, thank you! The truth is I am being amazingly mean on this one. I can get a machine that does everything I'll ever need new from Axminster for £112. Or a pretty adequate one for £75.

It's just that after my success on the planing machine purchase I'm hungry for ludicrously good deals on tools: I want good as new condition and great specs and I want to pay pennies for it.

I'll get over that shortly and stump up for the machine I need.

...On the other hand, if you come across something too good to miss, then I'm all ears!

Cheers Nick - C

With the bidding software... the free versions generally have a 10 second buffer, but it's not going to help you if you're up against someone who has paid a monthly fee to get into the last 3 seconds... heh. I don't really eBay that much, but I find that most auctions I'm interested in finish around about the time I get home from work, and I don't think Mrs mondo relishes the "I'll be with you in a minute, I just... oh. Never mind. Sooo.. uh, how was your day, then?" experience, followed by a slightly muted evening until I pull myself together and tell myself I didn't want that piece of crap, anyway.

ah i was up at lincolnshire steam rally last weekend. There was a whole woodstock sized area devoted to 2nd hand tool sales. The good stuff too, previously owned by some 90 year old engineer and kept in pristine condition type of things.
I managed to pick up some thumb planes, a fuuuge record vice, a bench for the vice and some coping saws for under £30.

Then i went and played on steam engines like a 8 year old.

Maybe you can, maybe you can... :D

I don't want to admit how envious I am of Nikininja's steam rally day out. I don't want everyone to know HOW MUCH of a geek I really am over that stuff!

I love old gear, and I love the guys that know how to look after it!

Ahhhh....

Cheers - C
