I've been playing with my acoustic and classical guitar for 6 years and just started 4 months ago with electric (my band mate lend his les Paul and Gretsch). But I'm thinking to buy a strat, not the squire one, hopefully this coming Christmas. Wondering what are the difference with the American standard, American Deluxe, American Vintage, Classic, Classic Player, Standard and Deluxe. Also the year it was made, does it counts?
Sorry I don't know anything about electric guitars and even the specs.

I wish there is a fender shop here in the Philippines not from the dealer or distributor, there are so annoying. They keep on suggesting other brands and kinds of guitars like Ibanez, Gibson, PRS, RG, ART, SG, and Tele respectively. Tele is good but I'm not saying I don't like them but I want to start with a strat.

any opinions and suggestion is much appreciated thanks.

Hi noche, welcome to the Forum.

I agree, the Strat catalog can look a bit confusing from the outside. Lots of models with many small differences between them.

You are really asking someone to tell you all the specs for nearly the whole catalog. That's a bit too much information for a post on this Forum - but luckily there is help at hand. Go to the "Products" pages of this website:

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... ratocaster

On the menu on the left you will see the main models of Stratocaster. Click on each model to see the individual guitars within that group. When you open a page for a particular guitar you will find a button called "Specs". Click this to find out the exact specifications for that Strat.

You need to do lots of studying and thinking about exactly what you want from a Strat. If anything is confusing you about the features ask a question here and folks will be glad to help.

Good luck - C

Ooops, sorry about that but thanks.

I've search through the specs, I don't quite get it though. Not all models available here unless its being pre-ordered so I can't compare the difference through playing. I was wondering why it was called with its respective category in the catalog. Watching Youtube and reading guitar reviews is not enough.

Hope not to get information overload...

Thanks. But I'm sorry Ceri, I don't mean asking for specs but which one is good for starters.

Hi again noche: OK, well that really depends on your budget. Many people would feel that buying the best guitar you can afford is the way to go.

On that page I linked to the American Deluxe, American Standard and American Vintage models are all ones that will be good for the rest of your life, if you can run to them. Many people would make that claim for other models too, and I wouldn't argue.

Lower on the list you will see the Standard Strat. It costs much less and is also a fine guitar and excellent value for money. If that suits your budget you should be well satisfied with that guitar.

Other models essentially offer variations on the features of the ones I have named. Worth looking to see if one of them exactly meet your requirements.

Or at a still lower price Fender produce their Squier models:

http://www.squierguitars.com/

The new Squier Vintage Vibe Strats are very well thought of and quite amazing value for money.

You can get an idea of the prices of all these guitars by looking at the US price list:

http://www.fender.com/resources/price_lists.php

You will know how to convert that into your own currency.

Does any of that help?

Cheers - C

Yes thanks, it straighten up my mind. I forgot to consider the budget again, hehe. The sound quality and the quaint feeling is stuck in my mind because it is what i'm always after I mean .

Converting to my currency... Maybe the classic player or the American Standard will give me a good shot. Change the pick-ups needed, but the value... Oh well, I'll consider the Squire, haven't tried it yet, when i was about to try that strat squire, the dealers started to suggest other more brands and guitar models again. I should have listen them not just from the people who plays in gigs and underground concerts.

I'll go roam around different malls and guitar shops where fender and Squire is available. When i have time.

Cheers back to you Bro. Thanks.
