I am still wanting a Strat with a Floyd Rose. I was wondering what set(s) of strings one would use with them. Curious to know when I get one what a good set up would be. And what may be recommended? I like Ernie Ball on my guitar(s) and been using them forever. I have no idea what gauges may be used or are recommended/prefered. Thanks for anybody's input.

You can use whatever brand you like, just make sure if you use a different gauge, that you do a bridge adjustment and stick with that gauge.

I rotate 5-guitars that have Floyds, and all of them have D'Addario 10's in them. That way I don't have to make any adjustments again.

You can use any strings you normally do as long as you cut the ball off the end of them...Or you also can buy strings that are made for the Floyd Rose tremolo system but there more expensive and i don't feel the extra cost is worth it

I use 11-52s on my AM Floyd Rose Classic Strat, and I agree, use a brand you like and dont bother with the strings without a ball/bullet.

You're gonna be clipping the string at the tuner end anyway, so just clip off the ball end.

Strings are personal matter. It really does not matter as long as you like them and give you the sound you want. You are going to clip both ends of the string anyways, so do not get hung up on the ball/bullet thing. I bet you that the back of the guitar will say strung with Bullet-end .009 through 0.042's. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the norm on MIM guitars.

Have a good day and please post pics of your new guitar if you can. I'd love to see that sticker on the back plate.

So I've noticed Floyd Rose produces a few different models. I'm guessing that Fender Strat's with tremolos installed from factory are "Original" models? And I see they (Floyd Rose) advertise a "Pro" model too. Can anyone tell me they're experience with these types? I also noticed after downloading manual for Strat from Fender site, the Dave Murray model it shows an Original Floyd Rose ll model (at least in manual). Are they all model ll (2) a second edition( I guess unless someone has an old style in the shop)? Well I am still mulling it all over. I am used to playing my '64 Stratocaster and I like the feel of the neck. But may be hard to find same ( my experience so far) feel. I did refinish the neck and sanded it down by hand many years ago, which may have changed feel from remakes. I have had this '64 since '73 and am the 2nd owner. I plan to leave my '64 as it is now and am looking to get into a Floyd Rose set up. Thanks for any input.

The Floyd Rose Pro has much more sustain than the Licensed Floyd Rose that Fender uses. I had one put on my old HM series Squier I bought back in the 80's. The ones on the new Fenders are Licensed by Floyd Rose, which means they are built by Floyd Rose specifically for sale on new guitars. IMHO they are not the same as the FR Pro or Standard for that matter.

Until then I never had a Floyd Rose perfectly balanced. It was great, never went out of tune (once the strings were stretched properly) regardless of the dive or pull I did. Alas I got stupid and wanted a new guitar and ended up using it for a trade in for an ESP LTD HH 100 QT. I always regretted that move.

Thanks very much for your reply. Sorry it turned into an old memory that has a dark side. But I am going thru similar times having to sell some old cherished equipment for lack of income.

I've used Floyds throughout the 80's and 90's and then the American Standards by Fender grew on me as my trem use decreased. I still have a couple of guitars with Original Floyds on them now.

While using Floyds or knock offs, I've never noticed any difference in them as long as they were assembled properly and installed properly. By choice I'll go with an original for bragging rights but if funds were limited, I wouldn't hesitate to get a knock off. I will admit having an Original ($250.00) sitting next to a knock-off ($80-100), you will see the difference as fas as quality-detail.

If you've never installed one before, this is not something you want tackle on your own. ...unless you are a shop guru, have the proper tools and a Floyd template.

Best of luck to ya...
