Another piece of history. Hopefully it will end up in a museum and not a collector's vault.

It's nice to hear that the collector plans on playing it.

This is old news of course. The question occurs to me as to how many scorched or shattered Strats can be directly attributed to him and have they all been accounted for.?

Indeed - both Forum user Stigall and myself ran threads on it in different parts of the Forum while the auction was going on - the sale could be viewed live online.

In fact, the final price was only just above the reserve. Beforehand, some had been predicting it would get twice as much. So at the time it seemed a bit of a damp squib, rather than another "mega bucks paid for famous guitar" story.

I'm waiting for Fender to produce a MIM version of it. The Extreme RoadWorn Series!

Why the intonation is set up for right handed person? Jimi never cared about that?

;)

Highly unlikely Hendrix would not have cared about that. It is strung for a lefty but intonated for a righty. It doesn't make sense. Good catch.

A few people were allowed to strum it prior to the auction. It was presumably reset to allow them to do so.

Though, as you say, curiously in this TV item from a few days before the auction the saddles are set for a right-hander but it is strung for a left-hander:

Bizarro!

Maybe life has made me too cynical but stories like these immediately equate in my mind alleged sightings of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

The August 2008 edition of Guitar & Bass from the U.K. has several articles and photos of the guitar. The cover story is a interview by Ted Owens and Phll Harris of Tony Garland talking about the guitar. Its has several pics of the three looking at it doing the interview. Another article in the issues speaks of the history of the guitar and its present condition the article is called ( Phoenix from the Ashes)
