If I would have had to pay the new updated prices for my two American Vintage 62's I would probably say yes they are a bit overpriced. But since I got them for quite a bit less I'm cool with it.

But overall guitar prices are ridiculous.

Keilwerth Shadow SX90R Tenor Saxophone - starting at $4,800

Selmer Paris 54 Super Action 80 Series II Tenor Saxophone - $4,898 to $5,400

Craftsman-built professional-level cello - $15,000 - $30,000

Yamaha YOB-241 Series Student Oboe - $2,100

Yamaha MOTIF 88-key Synthesizer/Workstation - $3,600

Drum Workshop 5-piece kit (No cymbals or stands) - $2,800

Do I think a top-shelf Stratocaster is overpriced? At $1,200?

Uh... no.

Relatively speaking, that's a bargain. Oh, and I paid a little more than that for my Selmer Paris.

Slap you are just a little off, as electric guitars are useless without amplification: Strat at $1,200 plus Gig worthy amp $1,400= $2,600 to play.Still not out of line with other instrument purchases.

Puts it lower than the most expensive instruments, but really in line with what other player you'll gig with most likely have to pay to go live, including drummers. Yeah with drums it WILL go higher, but $1,200 isn't the top of the line strat either. but you can get a pretty respectable drum kit for $2500 too, good enough to play live. But over all Slapchop's point stands. Other instruments are as expensive, or more expensive than we guitarists have to shell out.

Really great guitar, and great amp in a pretty affordable range.

I would say MIA Fender players are in line with other musicians(if even at the lower end of that spectrum,), until you get into the world of Symphonic instruments. Or custom made instruments.

Quality gear has never been more affordable than it is now. adjusted for inflation no other time period offers so much for such a reasonable price.

I concur!

Furthermore, when you buy a guitar, you're buying an instrument you might use for twenty or thirty years to engage in an activity that is of inestimable value. If you're not a serious musician, then buy a Squier and quite complaining!

Top shelf starts at £3500 with fender. Topshelf amps start from as little as £300. Your looking at a minimum of another £300ish for a decent speaker cab. When compared to other electric/electronic instruments its about right though.

I'd happily pay current prices for my gear if it was stolen and i could find replacements for some of it. Funnily enough the unique stuff of mine cost the least.

They're a bargain based on inflation. First new strat 1967, about 300.00. 42 years later you can cop an American Standard for 995.00.1967 Mustang new 4000.00. Should get one new today for 12,000.00 right?Get real folks. Seems like a bargain to me. YMMV 8) Mike

i think everything from this company is overpriced, quite honestly. prices keep creeping upward, while quality control slips downward. the words "unfair exploitation" sum it all up. i would possibly not say anything though if the prices still yielded good solid products. it's everyday now you hear someone with amp issues. cheap components, cheap quality, but prices ain't cheap. go figure

Actually , as far as guitars go, the quality has gotten better .From the squires to the MIM, to the MIA they are much better than they used to be.
