Does everyone like the locking Schaller tuners on their Fenders?
I have always had Sperzels and am going to buy some Schallers.

I have them on my Strat plus and I like them. Only brand I ever had though, so can't compare them to any others.

I have the Schaller 'F' locking tuners, as well.

I have to say, I never had any kind of tuning stability issues with the regular tuners. And I have never actually found it hard to tune string up and/or tune a normal style tuner.

I do like the Staggered aspect of the tuners, but really the deciding factor was I though they looked cool.

I have them on my Am Deluxe and love how easy they make restringing. I must say that I'm not that crazy about their ability to stay in tune though; one of the benefits that I thought they were supposed to add.

What is your guitar doing? Does it always go sharp? Ping? Describe your tuning troubles. Maybe someone here can help.

You should check your tremolo springs and the stability of your bridge and saddles. Also, make sure your nut is cut and/or lubricated properly.

It shouldn't be the nut since it is the LSR. Doesn't ping. the EGBE strings are the ones that typically go sharp if I use the trem agressively. I've heard that adding springs (currently three) may help the problem and also tighten the trem action.

And the tuners aren't designed to be 'locking'? That's oxymoronic.

Thanks for your feedback.

For the locking thing. oft times people don't understand that locking tuners, just mean the string is locked into the shaft of the tuner, to eliminate the need to wrap or wind the string to avoid slipping. They are not designed to take the place of a locking nut, which clamps the string in place at the nut, which eliminates the problem of string movement and binding in traditional nuts during trem bar use, which can result in tuning issues.

locking tuners do not address that issue.

I have Fender/Schaller "F" tuners on my guitar too. I do not have any tuning issues (anymore). I absolutlely love them. They look cool and are better than the Ping tuners I had on it. I do not use my string trees any more, but left them on. I have never used Spertzel so I cannot compare.

They allow for less (0-1) revolutions on the tuning peg as sometimes the string slips and causes the guitar to go out of tune faster. All you have to do is feed the string through the hole tight, tighten the lock, and tune to your guitar. It also make string changes that much quicker.
