I have a mim Strat, when I bought it the action felt fine but after playing it for a while I think it would feel better if the action was higher. I am new to electric guitars and have never made any adjustments before. Can anyone tell me.....is it easy to do? Do you loosen the strings before you take the allen wrench to it? How do you know all the strings are the same height, do you go by feel? AND, most importantly, can I throw the whole guitar out of wack by trying this myself? How do you prefer the action on your guitar, high or low? Oh, one more thing, do you feel that bends are easier or harder with a high action, also what about fretting speed? I know there are a ton of questions here, but I'll take any help I can get! Thanks!

Loosen the strings if you want them higher. Use some measuring device
in inches or milimeters.
My setup is 2mm on the high E-string and 2.5 on the low E-string measured
at the 12th fret.
You could call this a medium action, low would be 1.6 to 2 mm.
Follow the curve of your fretboard to set the strings at the correct height.
The flatter the fingerboard the lower you can set the strings.
Vintage Fenders play better with a high action so when you bend the
high stings they don't choke (fret out).
Thicker stings can be set lower then thin (slinky) strings.
Fender also has set-up guides on their web-site.
