Hmmm. Well I'm wondering whether the various bodies posted on this thread count as "bright gold" or "dull ugly gold color" in the OP's mind.

If you're talking about a body and neck shiny like polished metal - well then don't hold your breath...

:? - C

I dunno about that Ceri. Go to your local automotive supply house. have a look at some of the products they have now. if you know how to paint you can get close to that look. or you could get the body bronzed, like Robbie Robertson did.

Sorry the only really good pic I could find was taken in a display case, so there's reflections from the glass. As you can see, Robbie wasn't done modding it, he made some pretty drastic changes.

I think I found a product I could use to fake that.

Good grief - well I'm delighted to eat my words on that! Was that finish really sprayed on? Sensational - I'd seriously love to know what product that paint is. I have use for that!

I've seen a guy on the internet building Strat bodies out of hollow polished aluminum, which I must say looked absolutely fabulous. Can't locate those pictures at this moment, or I'd have posted them here.

Didn't think you could get a genuinely comparable polished metal look out of a spray nozzle - so I'll be amazingly glad of any more info you can give.

Thanks very much, Twelvebar!

Cheers - C

He actually had it bronzed, like baby shoes.

but there are metallic paints for that effect now. I am itching to try it out. in fact the pawn shop across from my work bought some liquidated squires, they have 15 or so for almost free. I think I need to grab one, and try it out.

Oh and I have seen those aluminum bodies before.

anyway, here`s one companies metallic paints:

not the brand I am planning on trying, the stuff above is tres expensive, but look how good it can look. The company pictured made the paints I used on that Ibanez.

I guess its just a matter of preferance. As Im not sure if you have ever played a Kemmery guitar. There was some things I did like about Warmoth and had played several once again with all the perks I recieved with my guitar the Kemmery won out. Jason does alot more then the site can list so speaking with him would reveal quite a bit more. Love the Fact he can do custom Nitro Finishes in the color of your choice. Like I said its not a contest was just tossing an option out there for the guy thats all. By the way for what I got with my Kemmery I saved around 450.00 compared to Warmoth not bad not bad.

I have scrolled up and I do like it!

Twelvebar, you just have to jump on six of those Squier bods and finish one in each color - if you'd be so kind! I can't wait to see the blue one. How much is "tres expensive", please? It would certainly be tres cool!

Seriously for a minute: is that in fact automotive candy paint? That's skilled stuff to use. You'd have everyone drooling with admiration if you did a thread painting a guitar with that stuff.

I hope the OP, Mr s poptart, is watching. If he's not pleased with the answers he's getting, well...

Cheers - C

That stuff isn't a candy. its not metallic undercoat with transparent color coat. its metallic colour.

But it's $150.00 us a pint!!

I have a more budget minded alternative in mind.

My Ibanez project was more akin to a candy finish. Just the base coat was black instead of metallic.. the colour coat needed to be shot over it. i did a small test with out it, and the colour barely showed.

Sorry to poptart for seriously derailing his post.

Yes a Custom Made Strat can be made for under $1.000 with quality parts.
A few Musikraft parts or not Ive had quite a few guitar stores check this guitar out. One stated that it felt and played like his dads 1958 Strat.
Argue if youd like may not be a $2,500 plus CS Strat plays as good sounds as good as any Fender and left me with enough money to buy more equiptment. More isnt always better. The guitar is 100% American and hasnt left the country to be made or come from foreign soil taking jobs away from Americans to make.

Keith, thanks for plugging me ... I saw this thread and thought I would post a reply. First of all, my prices, out of necessity due to my suppliers increasing prices have had to rise. My reason for being is that most, if not all of the other guys doing what I do, and there are a few, most notably Bill Nash, are using imported necks and bodies, most of them get them from Allparts. These are fine necks, and I have used them in the past, but they do not offer the range of user-defined options that I can get from Musikraft. I thought that there would be a place for a builder who would build a guitar to a players exact specs, and I have stayed relatively busy doing just that.

If a player has the inclination to build his own guitar, I would have nothing but encouragement for him, or her! Its how I started and I believe it's a rewarding experince. Many players and people though do not have experience doing finising, soldering and set-up work to pull it off the first time, and don't want the hassle of purchasing things like paint spraying equippment to build one guitar. But if you are a DIY'er, and would like some advice, give me a shout, I have no problem with that.

To the gentleman (SlapChop) who said "there is nothing custom going on here", I'm wondering what his definition of "custom" is? To me, a guitar built to a player's exact specs with the colors, pickups, frets, fingerboard radius, neck profile, tuners and switching of your choice constitutes a custom guitar. Each guitar I build includes quite a bit of fret leveling, crowning and polishing to make it play well. I have spent years learning how to properly finish and set up a guitar and have spent several hundred dollars on equipment to do so ... I believe that for the price, my guitars offer an incredible value to someone who doesn't want to do it himself, and qualify for the lable "custom" because they are made for an individual player to the player's exact specifications. I can also paint a guitar to match any color you would like, provided you supply me with either a paint chip or a PMS color code. Also, I would like to add, there is much more to "relicing" a guitar then just to "beat it up". I have developed my own techniques over the years and I belive mine stand up against ANY others I have seen in terms of authentic look and feel. The first ones, not so much ... over time you develop a technique to the art of it.

So anyway, I am happy to hear any criticism and am happy to answer any questions anyone might have. Thanks again to Keith for the plug. Good luck to all of you with your playing, and having your dream guitar built. If I can help you out with that ... please let me know. I'll be happy to help in any way I can!
