I am loking to buy a MIM Strat (money issues right now)

I am looking for a Strat with the following features and would like to know wich model might come standard with them already...

Maple V Taper neck (not Rosewood)
Medium Jumbo Frets
3 single coils (noiseless or texas Special would be nice but not mandatory)

the rest of the features don't matter as much to me including color.

If I can only get it in a MIA Strat I would like to know that as well.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer

About the closest thing to that configuration that I can think of is the Jimmy Vaughan Artist Series. It has the soft-v, TexMex single coils and its Mexican made, but it lists for around $1500 (I think). It also has a scalloped fingerboard, which many players dont prefer or cant get used to.

I'd say that's spot on for Scot06's request. Great call.

Where do you get the bit about the scalloped fingerboard, though? I haven't heard about that on the JV.

Cheers - C

The closest ones I can think of would be the Jimmy Vaughan Strat along with the Classic 50s or Classic Player 50s. They all have the Soft-V maple neck but the 50s have vintage frets. Also, the 50s have vintage pickups. The Jimmy Vaughan has MJ frets and Tex-Mex pups, not Texas Specials.

Fender doesn't make a "noiseless" set of Texas Specials. If you are really looking for a set of noiseless, save some money and get a MIM standard and upgrade the pickups to some vintage noiseless or SCNs. It would end up probably saving you some money.

Good luck on your search.

I'll confirm that Texas Specials are true single coil pickups, noise and all. At least mine were.

My appoligies. I just looked up the JV specs and found no scalloped frets. I dont know where I got that idea from, quite honestly.

Well, hopefully he didnt want them anyway. :)

Probably not - but you just got my juices going for a second.

It's years since my only encounter with a scalloped neck and for a second there I was wondering if this was the opportunity to try one again and reconsider. It would have been an affordable model, after all.

Somehow, scalloped necks and Jimmie Vaughan don't quite go together though, do they? Ah well: back to the drawing board...

Cheers - C

sorry, I forgot to put the or between noiseless and texas speical
either one would work fine.

my main cincern is the v taper and med jumbo frets. The pups I can switch out if I really need to. I'd rather do that then a refret job.

The Clapton model seems to fit the bill pretty closely. Except it has the Vintage frets that I don't like.

I'd rather replace pups then refret.

What should I expect to change to a larger fret size? Or a total refret I should say.

I'm not sure if a full setup would be necessary or not. I would have the string height at the nut checked at that first fret and then just check your string height at the 17th fret.

You'll likely replace the body too to get a clapstrat. As much tinkering as i've performed in the last 12 months on my clap mod i cant get it to operate within acceptable levels of noise without a specialy routed body.
