I'm surfing craigslist today and I come across an 01-02 MIM sunburst with hardshell case for $225. Must resist...

I have 2 MIM strats: a Black 01 Standard upgraded with callaham block and pickups out of a 60s series, and and 04 Lake Placid Blue 60s series modded with EMG SAs and graph tech saddles.

I sure would love to grab a Sunburst to go with my other babies, but the girlfriend will kill me.

Maybe wants you to spend time with her? I've noticed with others that girls go, but the guitars tend to stick with you! ;)

Guitar players love to buy guitars. It's some kind of innate sickness. It can also be linked to OCD.

But it will be a cold day in hell before I ever let a woman tell me what to do.

If your girlfriend is already fussing about you buying guitars, be sure and buy as many as you can before you plan on getting married.

Sort of like my strategy of getting as much gear as possible before I have to pay my own bills... :P

I find in these tough economic times that "investing" in a guitar that you most probably could sell for more than you paid for it, to be a sound financial strategy. I buy and sell guitars as a side business, and have never lost money on a sale. I don't buy junk, but find thoses guitars that just need a little TLC and a complete set up to perform well.
Tell your girl that the new guitar is worth twice what you paid, and she MAY feel better about the money spent. If not, just hide the new case in the stack of cases in the corner. She will never know.....HaHaHaHa!!!

If you are set up as a business then you can make a profit after all that's the point of going into business. But for everyone else selling guitars privately on Ebay or Craiglist your losing money. Very few things in life actually appreciate in value.

I have said it many times, and I'll say it again:

It's way easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

get the guitar then debate whether or not to get another girlfriend.

Woman come and go, but your guitar is always there for you.
And guitars get you more woman anyway. :D Gotta love it,

(in a perfect world the guitar would get you a woman who buys you more guitars.)

357 That is true but it just so happens guitars are one of those things. I have yet to buy a guitar-(now to be honest I buy high end ) that has not gone up in value. Plus I take exceptional care of my gear#1 and #2 maybe not as much but always well maintaned. So I can even spit out a ridicules low end number and say I can get back every dollar I payed on every guitar plus $200 in profit . I have had a great 30 years so far.

Good responses guys. I should clarify though that this isn't an issue of her telling me what to do. She really has very little say over what I do. It's really that we're saving to build a house and I have been on her for spending. She love buying shoes. I'm actually trying to set an example and I really don't need another guitar right now.

Any way I'm hoping my discipline will help stem the tide of shoes that I'm sure to drown in some day

But you all know how these guitar buying urges are!!! But damn do I want to get that house built too. Get out of this condo and really CRANK UP MY AMP!!

instead, try this!

work on your car. it will cost you money and save you money at the same time. will give you something to tweak so you don't crave another guitar to tinker with.

trade! when in doubt, try to trade up. take some old stuff you don't like and try to make a deal to get something you want and will keep a long time. now, the buisness end is sucking up your creative juices instead of the desire to spend sucking up your money.

i call this obsession rotation for a better, healthier, tomarow (and financially secure)

a couple years and you might just amass a small fortune you can sell one day for a house.

Just kindly remind her of this;

The guitar you're seeking probably costs less than that pair of shoes she saw at the mall

Jus5t sell a bunch of her shoes, and buy a guitar. that way you can see if it's really true love.

Yeep, +1 on Twelvebars idea.

There was a post I think in this forum that noted something like this

"My ex-(wife/gf/etc) gave me an ultimatum once, choose... its either me or the guitar!" Supposedly the guy is still happily playing his git.

Good luck with the purchacing of your first house.

(hopefully she does not read this...lol) When the time comes and you finally get the house loan, roll the money that a new Custom Shop Fender Stratocaster that you've always wanted into that 30 year fixed loan. You cannot sell the guitar until you pay off your house note. If you ever sell the house, the guitar is payed off. Win-win situation, I call it creative G.A.S tactics.

Best of luck to you.
