man, that's awesome....this cat is selling his "Dan Smith Strat" for $675....Do you have any pics of the wiring of the pickups on yours? I read that the guitar is worth between $1500 - $1850 (through the 2009 VIntage Guitar Price guide) I;m beginning to think this thing might be scammy....what's weird is that the body and the wiring of the pickups looks like what I've seen online (with the yellow wires running from the pots to the pickups)

but the pic of the date stamp on the neck is all screwed up. I can't tell the dates on it...not because his pic is poor quality, but because the stamp itself is very faded and non consistent....

I'm really just trying to not make a $675 mistake....though for that price, if it plays like a dream it might be worth it....what are your thoughts?

Often times when critical information such as date markings were made vague, it is because they were intentionally made that way. I smell fake and see red flag here. Don't even bother with it...Stay away!!!!

Gents, I wanna thankyou for your time...I think you have let that little angel on my shoulder that kept telling me to get away to finally be heard. Man I'm jonesing for a good strat around $900, but I wanna get something unique....thanks for the help, I sent the dude up in LAX a good honest e-mail about why he's selling a Smith Strat for so cheap, I'll let you know what he says...

BTW Bluesguitaris65, how do you like your axe? From a lot of the things I've read about the smith strats, they are supposed to be incredible players, with flat radius and just amazing guitars, what do you think?

Well unfortuantley, what is left with my Smith Guitar is just a shell. It has turned into a "partsocaster". Good thing I kept the original parts, but the the strat now has a warmouth compound radius neck and all sort of different mix and match pickups. It has the original floyd rose, not the license ones. It is a guitar that has more sentimental value now, not really player guitar anymore. The mods I did to it was made when I was stupid....some still say I'm still am :D , but my point is I did those mods to my beloved smith guitar during the 80s when the Metal scene was strong in the L.A area, and eveyone had to mod thier axe whit floyd rose and custom duncan pickups. I really regret it and I did mods on my vintage Marshalls as well. But, from memory, the smith was an excellent playing guitar. MIne had a slight V shape to the neck, and it was/is a heavy guitar.

I wonder if Fender would redue my smith back to life again...considering I still have the orignal tunning gears, trem bridge, pickups, and neck.

Here is my Dan Smith (Sienna Burst Strat with warmouth neck) with other guitars.

Well, I don't know how long this eBay page for an auction that just ended here in Australia will remain active — but this is how you sell a Dan Smith Strat!

(warning to Bluesguitar65: contains an unmolested sienna burst)

Your totally wrong the x1 only came out mid 1980 on the Hendrix strat and was used till end of 1980 on all standard strats which mine is a 1980.
The Dan Smith was released in 1981 and as far as I have read does not have the x1 in it.

You know, it's the strangest thing... minutes after posting that, I saw another sienna Smith advertised here in Sydney (the previous one was in Brisbane, which is about 14 hours drive away, give or take). I haven't seen any of those on our local eBay from anyone but dealers in... well, I haven't seen any, actually, and now two within days of each other.

I thought maybe someone had purchased the Brisbane one and was trying to flip it quickly for a profit, but the serials are different. Perhaps the seller noticed the previous auction and thought "Oi, I've got one of them," and decided to go for it. It's at quite a decent price at the moment, with under 12 hours to go... ah, well. I'd have to work wonders with Mrs mondo to be a contender for that one... heh.
