any one own or tryed one of these. i want a little tube amp to take on the road traveling or just for a quick plug and play deal. if the quality is on the scetchy side is there another choice you would recommend. keep in mind i am sold on tubes, my ears are open to suggestion but man -hard to beat the tube sound. for this use a clean channel will do but i wouldnt mind a modle i could dirty up a bit as well.
( i do realize you get what you pay for but sometimes there are some unknown little gems out there)

:D :P thanks so much jimmy b

That should work fine for your described application.

If you want even better try a 5e1 Tweed Champ (or similiar).

Before you by that champion 600, take a closer look at the Vox AC4TV combo with the 10" celestion speaker. You'll be surpise and not regret it. I just demoed both champ 600 and the vox ac4tv and boy what a difference in tone. The vox made the champ 600 sound like a transistor am radio.

GC has them on sale now for $199 and you can use your 10% coupon on top of that!!

This VOX AC4TV is a Fender Champion 600 Killer, it certainly blows it away. Does not have the boxy tone like the Champ 600 does. Much more versatile as well, specially with the built in power attenuator, so many diferent tones using it compared to the champ 600.

I got a great deal on it as well, less than $200 out the door, sales tax already included.

Now, my Pro Jr in the shop for warranty repair, I figured I should by another amp just to hold me over :D

I have a Champion 600. I love it. I also demo'ed a few others including the VOX. In my opinion my Champ kicked all their asses. One thing though, they are made in China. My understanding is that there is a lot of inconsistency in the tubes.

I may have gotten lucky, and got one with good tubes. Try out as many of these little amps as you can, and pick the one you like best.

I will say, I get some really sweet classic Fender tones from this baby. Kick in my Tubescreamer for some boost when needed, and pure heaven.

Being as though china is the biggest manufacturer of tubes/valves and they find their way into amps from everyone mesa to vox.
The only difference is that some companies put more effort into weeding out the duffers and are a little more stringent on their QC.

Yup, and I can say by all my experience with Vox amps, that they are excellent in weeding out the "duffers". Not a single Vox amp I own have needed a trip to the service center.....

yeah, I meant that these amps, kind of have a rep for the tubes being hit or miss.

I don't mean to be down on the VOX. But the Champ gave me exactly the tones 'I' was looking for. the VOX didn't. I think if I were looking for a smaller practice amp for '20 years younger me' the Vox would have been a better choice. But current me only wanted a lo volume Fender sound. So a person needs to look at all of em, and decide what they want. You're not buying an amp for me or for BG65

We can only tell you we are each happy with our prospective purchases.

Really, the only thing anyone online can really give you advice on is if a product has a rep for poor construction, or poor reliability. the other decisions you have to make for yourself.

Well we all know everyone makes a duffer every now and again. Even Vox, look at the reliability issues of all the ac30 incarnations.

My own experience of the Champ 600 is a less than happy one..

Played clean, it is beautiful - crystaline sounds, but somehow still warm. The best clean guitar sound I've ever heard at low volume.

Crank it up, and it's a mess. A fuzzed out train wreck of a sound with a high frequency sort of rattling that gets worse the louder it gets. Suspecting tube vibration, I turned it back down and put a variety of Overdrive pedals in front of it. It was no better - we're talking Kinks circa 1965 here..

I took it back to try some others, but of the 6 Champ 600s in stock, mine was the only one that actually made any sound. I don't doubt that they are easily fixed, but frankly, I didn't need that sort of aggravation. It certainly suggested some serious fragility in the design that any potential purchaser should be aware of.

I exchanged mine for an Epiphone Valve junior, but had the Vox AC4TV been available at that time, I'd have had one - no hesitation.

I really did try to like the Champ 600. It looks brilliant and the low volume clean sound is absolutely exquisite. And when I say low volume, I mean 'play in the same room as my wife while she's watching the television' low volume.

Shame. A missed opportunity by Fender.

I thought kinks tone would have been what it was meant to do. After all its never going to do slayer or layla tones for £100.

Here is a demo of my AC4TV. I'm extremely happy with it. Love the tone I'm getting, specially at low volumes. I have to crank my pro jr much louder, but the Vox AC4TV with its built in Attenuator really makes it much more manageable to ge that overdriven tube tone at lower volume. I welcome your opinons please.

Could be. Maybe I expected more from it than it was reasonable to expect. But that Kinks sound (You Really Got Me) came at the cost of a slashed driver cone. I certainly wasn't expecting Heavy rock tones - but vintage-ish champ tones was a reasonable expectation given the promotion Fender have given it.

I also couldn't couldn't get past the high frequency rattle and the fact that the store had a collection of new, but non-working, 600s..

Ah Adey we all fall for the marketing hype  Only a month ago i bought another multi-effects unit cos i thought it may give a real plexi sound. What a mug I am eh? After 20 odd years i really should know better.

Your right though theres no way a shop should be stocked full of non working amps. it sounds like a duff consignment all to one place but so many shoudnt have got to the transport trucks.

Gotta add my twopenneth worth here as a amp recommendation. The blackstar HT5. After playing several this week its the only sub 10watt amp on the planet for me. So much so that i'm selling my 84 jcm800 to justify getting one. Its only £30 more than a superchamp xd too.

Ah Nikki - if we weren't taken in on occasions, the whole romance would go out of the game. It's good to be a bit cynical but it's nice to be excited too.

As for the Blackstar HT5, well I'm with you all the way. They're selling them faster than they can make them apparently. My name is on a list at my local hyper guitar mega store. Utterly fantastic machine..
