My post here perilously approaches the MIM/ MIA post wars that I have completely sworn off of, but here goes anyway...

No, the Mexican Strats are EXTREMELY well made. The MIA Strats are finer instruments with some higher quality materials and more detailing in the build process. But that does not deter from the Mexicans being nice high-quality guitars.

Any one who wants to dispute me on that notion, consider my other cheek turned...

Nicely put, my friend, very nicely put. Bordering on eloquent...

Ahh - bad choice of words on my part - of course machines are used. I was referring more to the amount of 'by hand' labor that is used - fret work, finishing, sanding, base coating, neck pocket, pick-ups (using winders), etc. etc.

I was pleasantly surprised actually!

Ah no worries.

BTW

Who says american bodies aren't made of multiple pieces (more than 5)? I've never seen any evidence that they aren't.

And, 1 piece or 5 piece, the solid color ones are sealed in a layer of polyester paint... not sure I'd be able to tell a difference in tone or resonance.... Heck, for the price, I'm not sure I'd care how many pieces as long as it looks good, plays well and sounds good! Personally, I'm looking forward to adding a candy apple red '09 MIM Strat to the stash...

I'm not saying the Mexican Strats have scrap wood. What I'm saying is it's my understanding the Mexican Strats do not use the exact same grade of wood that the American Strats do.

I can't prove or disprove this though. But this is something I would like to find out. Whether or not the wood in the Mexican Strats is the exact grade that is used in the Americans.
