How come Fender does not make an Aged White Strat pickguard to match my Olympic White Strat with Fender aged white vol/tone knobs, and aged white Strat pickup covers? The Parchment pickguard is to light, and the Mint Green does not match up as well. Thanks for any info.

I got a MIM '60s strat with greenish pickguard, looks cool in my opinion.
Also got a Tele with a parchment pickguard but it looks white to me.
I know there are compagnies specialised in real oldtime pickguards like
the bakelite black one for the '52 Tele.
Maybe there is some way to relic a pickguard......but don't ask me.

Since Fender does not make this Strat aged white pickguard, does anyone know where I can find one from another pickguard maker?

hi there. if you are looking for a replacement pickguard, try warmoth at www.warmoth.com. They have lots of fender stuff and will custom make you a pickguard. i am not sure exactly what colors they have but check it out.

This is just a guess, but I'd bet that over time (20 yrs), the original white pickguards probably aged to the mint green. I suspect it has to do with the different material used for the pickguard than was used for the knobs and covers.

Regarding your question as to why fender does not make an Aged White Pickguard, maybe this is the reason: I have an '87 Olympic White Strat with white 3 ply pickguard. For several years of its life it was on display near a window. The guitar finish, the pickup covers and the knobs all aged to a beautiful golden white color. But the pickguard really did not change much in color. The contrast between the pickguard, the pickup covers, and knobs is what has made this guitar an outstandingly beautiful instrument, in my opinion.

When you take the pickups out of the pickguard and look at the covers, there is a very distinct line where sunlight did not age the plastic. I have tried to get new plastic parts to look like the sunlight aged plastic by soaking them in tea and coffee and even hanging them on a tree outside for months, but I have been unable to perfect a way of getting that beautiful golden white color that results from natural aging and exposure to sunlight.

This seemed to be a good thread to ressurect to put this picture:

Image

While the picture isn't the greatest (I had a hard time getting the right amount of light/flash), it does shows the contrast of shades of "white" in some Fender pickguards. From top to bottom, they are:

a new MIM Standard -- the whitest of them all
a new parchment from an American Series
a well used one from a mid-'70s Strat (you can see the contrasting whiter plastic that was under the knobs)
and a very greened old one on a 1964 Strat.

I aged the plastics on a mates cheapie by soaking em in water that had a load of cigarette butts in it. It took a month but it worked.
