And here's the video!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9B46QSdi8Y

I thought it came out better than it did. Have you ever played something that just felt right only to listen to the recording later and realize it wasn't really as good as you thought? This was sort of that way. I thought I used more space than that, but I don't think I used enough. Of course, I missed notes. Not as many as before though. And the tone wasn't that great. It sounded like a bunch of bees buzzing around in the amp or something.

well done TexBecks.
Very very impressive, what I enjoyed the most was that it was absolutely evident that you were confident and enjoying yourself. A winning combination for the lve stage. If your not enjoying yourself, how can you expect your audience to enjoy themselves. But you were, and it showed.

A huge congratulations mate.

Thanks for that, I really had a lot more fun on this one than the previous two. I was more comfortable with the song than before so I could just focus on having fun with it. I got a lot of good advise from a lot of good players about that. :)

Congrats TGS! Ya done good girl!

The first thing I noticed when watching this video compared to the first one is that you had "stage pressence" in this one. It looks like you took the advice given after the last vid.

You looked much more comfortable and you could tell you were having fun this time around. You even smiled! I could see a huge difference in your confidence on this video. It looks good on you :D

Now you can use this experience to build on

the sky is the limit

You'll be even better next year. You will go back next year right? I know Mom and Dad are proud... Especially if that was Dad whoopin it up in the background on the video... :D

By the way that was a nice composition...I really liked what you did with that track.

Thanks! :D I'm absolutely going to enter next year, in fact I wish they had it twice a year. Next year should be even more fun.

Yeah, I had my Mom and Dad there, my brother, my grandparents and my band leader all there. My Dad plays a little bass, but other than that no one really plays anything in my family. But everyone loves music, and everyone's really supportive. My Mom even volunteered to do my chores for me last week so that I could practice more.

do the rules allow you to enter next year? I hope so. I believe it is only the final winner that can not enter again. So I think you are safe.

Now that you know what to expect for next years competition and you have a years worth of practice time, just imagine what you can do next year. We are all proud of you and look forward to following your progress.

This all leaves me asking the question, why aren't there more prominent female guitarists in the industry? After all women are said to be more empathic than men, better at multi-tasking (an ideal attribute for modern guitar/amp rig's).

Tex your mom sounds like a winner, to offer you that help. Why not compose her something, as a thankyou. All I ever got outta my mom was 'turn that down'.

I hear ya there! My moms bought me my first bass and amp. Then proceeded to tell me to "turn it down" for the next 5 or so years

:?

maybe she didn't realize that a 100 watt Peavey was a bit much for a beginner

man that rig used to rattle the windows in the entire house. And every door. And pretty much everything else 8)

My dad would be out in the unattatched garage and come stomping in yellin "why the hell you gotta have that bleeping thing so loud". He would get pi$$ed because the metal garge door would vibrate and buzz with each note. He said he couldn't concentrate when I was playing my bass lol

woohoo those were the good ole days.

Funny thing was that I never really had it that loud. It was like the entire house was tuned to my bass and would just resonate with it perfectly

haha

Wow, TGS, I had no idea that you were that good! How long have you been playing? My three kids (two girls) all play. They are all doing very well in a short time. I have a feeling you young folks are on some kind of fast track. I don't know if it is new brain wiring or if you just have more learning tool available to you...it's proabaly both! :D

I've been playing guitar for four years, although I never played (or listened to, or liked) blues until last Thanksgiving. My guitar teacher let me borrow Texas Flood (the album) for the holiday and I bet he had no idea what a monster that would create. I played nothing but the song Texas Flood for three months after that. And since then I've also been listening to as much blues as I possibly can. It started out with just a few people, SRV, Jimmie Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, and then it just exploded when I discovered that they have blues CDs at the library.

I usually run all my songs by my Mom to get the non-guitarists perspective. I haven't really tried writing anything for her though. Although she was the one who made me learn "Lenny". Every week she asks me "have you finished learning "Lenny" yet?" And no, I haven't yet. It's like her asking "are we there yet?"

When I started playing my parents had the foresight to buy me an amp with a headphone output, so I never had any "turn it down" problems.

I don't know why more girls don't do it. Maybe it's because they'd have to sacrifice being cool and/or popular to devote the time to practicing. I don't go out with my friends very much, I usually have a gig or I need to practice for one. I don't really mind though.

But I think it's mainly that girls tend to not listen to the guitar-centric rock and metal that guys do. I always liked the guitar-centric rock and metal better than pop or anything like that, and that's what ended up leading me into blues.

Although, I've been noticing quite a few girls who are into the same music I like now. One time I played Texas Flood and a girl about my age came up after and started telling me about how excited she was that I played it and how much she liked Stevie. She plays guitar too, but she mostly does classic rock. So they're out there. :D

I'll admit it, I've been jamming along with that vid most of the night, trying to steal a few licks.

Tex one thing that becomes more and more apparent when I listened to that vid, especially comparing it to other entrants. Your playing infront of the beat. Every good guitarist is slightly infront or behind the beat of the song. Hendrix and Clapton are notoriously behind the beat with chord work, then jump infront of the beat for lead work. If your bang on the beat it sounds sterile, its whats wrong with computer music of the 80's. You played that lead in a similar manner, infront of the beat. When the few competitors i compared you with played slightly behind the beat. It gave the perception of you leading the backing music, they sounded like they were being led by it. Not easy to do with a real live well rehearsed band behind you, never mind a backing track.

That squire looks well ace too. I like the way the camera man zoomed in on the headstock. As if to say, "look what she can do with a squire". Dont ever let anyone slight that guitar.
