Funny thing happened last night
I added a few more riffs but the more I practiced the sloppier
I was playing.
I've been listening to trower Hendrix Clapton Vaughn
to stir up some mojo.

Well gathering my stuff will be there around 530.
Good luck guys

hey guys,

Just got back. I did not make the top two.

HOWEVER

My buddy who works there (Will not mention his name because he could be fired for revealing this information) pulled me aside and told me that I scored 3rd of 10. he also told me that if one of the top two are unable to play, I get to fill in the spot.

played my JM into a 808 into the Deville 410.

some pics:

anyone spot the new SG Zoot Suit in the background? I played it today, and LOVED it! the only thing was that it weighed A TON!

TO ANYONE WHO WAS THERE TONIGHT:

thanks a lot, and I had a lot of fun. and if anyone asks, YOU DID NOT HEAR WHAT I JUST TOLD YOU

thank you!

I was up first tonight. That kind of rattled me since I normally have time to "get in the zone" before a song. It didn't go nearly as smooth as I wanted it, and I can't put my finger on it but the tone I was getting was just weird. But it had it's good moments. :)

Anyway, there were a bunch of good guitar players there but two people that really stuck out to me. One was a man who did some cool slide riffs mixed in to his song (he won) and the other was a girl who was shredding to "east coast blues". It wasn't really blues at all, but she was fairly good at shredding and doing all those guitar licks that Jimmie Vaughan called "trick roping". I like that analogy. It looks hard, but once you know the trick it's not nearly as hard as you thought it would be.

I thought that for sure she would get into the top two, because she was doing the kind of things that you think they'd really like at Guitar Center, she had this whole attitude going, and she was being extra friendly to the judges and staff.

The song I did was a blues shuffle, sort of like Freddie King. Nothing really technical, there were some jazzy riffs thrown in, but it really didn't have anything flashy.

So I was really surprised when I found out that I won second and I'm moving on to the store finals! :D I'm glad I get a second chance at it, I'm really going to tighten the song up so that it's a lot better when I go back in a few weeks.

I have a video recorded, but it's not going up on youtube until after the finals are over. I don't want any of y'all to steal my song. Plus I'm probably going to play it way better after I get these next few weeks of practice in anyway. :)

Congratulations to everyone....I have one question? Do you compose your own songs, or they give you to choose from some backing tracks or what?

You would be the only person surprised by that outcome — your modesty is a nice part of the package, though, so keep doing what you do..!

Looking cool chanman
congrats texasguitarslinger
as for me 4th place
I felt I was playing pretty sloppy choppy
I was very nervous.
My friends said I was very good,
I know I messed up
for the most part I did ok
my messups were a couple of timing issues
and tone.
I had been practicing w a dirty gritty tone
at the comp it was fairly clean.

There's always next yr

Hey, I'm impressed that you guys entered the competition in the first place! I'm not sure how I'd go in something like that. I'm uncomfortable if I think people are paying attention to me, let alone judging me. My public performances have usually been along the lines of me quietly striking up a tune in the background, and when a couple of people say "What is that music, anyway?" it begins to go pear-shaped on me... heh.

Thanks. :D

I would have been nervous if it hadn't been for that incident in Austin where Jimmie Vaughan played Hide Away on the same stage and in front of the same crowd that I had to play Hide Away for a couple of hours later. Now THAT was truly frightening, yet at the same time very cool. I don't think I'll be that scared to play in front of people again for a long time.

nah, just go with. There are times when your
up and times when your down
roll with the punches. Don't worry what people think.
Imagine the course of blues if Robert Johnson
gave up?
