The first strat plus I got, which I still have, is a 1988 Pewter, but has the rosewood fretboard. Wish I would of got it in maple though. I usually play my maple neck guitars more.

Don't see too many strats from that time with an actual E8 serial number, mine has the more common E4.

Tuners appear to be non stock, someone had put brushed black Sperzel Trimlocks on that neck.

A Strat Plus from that era should come with brushed chrome Schallers.

Here is a very nice 1989 Strat Plus i recently picked up. Super clean. Only a few small edge dingys on the back of the neck that are barely noticeable. I love this color as I know ZZdoc does too! 8)

Is that a Mystic Black Plus?

The Firestorm Tele Plus is awesome! Looks like it has a non-roller nut. Is the guitar stock or customized to some extent? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

Back then there were two Tele Plus models - the regular one had the hard-tail bridge and the regular nut and the Tele Plus Deluxe had the trem, roller nut and locking tuners.

I have only seen the Tele Plus DXs a few times. My foe on the Forum who is the Firestorm police has one and had it on eBay, asking big bucks for it. Needless to say it never sold. I have seen some Ash cap versions of them too, but went over the price I would pay. Now you hardly ever see them.

The Deluxe Tele Pluses were featured with an American Deluxe pop-in bridge though I suspect a very few were sold with the Mini Floyd Rose assembly a couple of months before Fender changed the design to a Nashville configuration with a bound top and contoured back circa 1995/96.

You're probably right about the trem - assuming there were any Tele Plus Deluxes made in 1995. I don't believe I've ever seen a photo of a 1995 Tele Plus Deluxe (after they changed the headstock logo back to the vintage style and put the serial number on the back), and I've only seen 2-3 photos of a Tele Plus Deluxe with the LSR nut instead of the Wilkinson nut.

These are brushed chrome and are stock. Maybe they are showing up on your screen a tad on the dark side?

Clapton used this on some of his Signature Strats.

Actually the pewter strats Eric used in the late 1980s and the early 1990s started life as prototypes; it was around February of 1988 the gain volume was increased to 25dB, the midboost bypass switch removed and a flamed maple 22-fret neck replaced the original 21-fret. A birdseye maple 22-fret neck was installed in the second guitar a few weeks before the Shoreline Amphitheatre concert in September of that year.

These changes became the basis for the final product which was officially released publicly in mid-to-late 1988.

One of the pewter strats became black during the second half of 1990.

I saw Clapton at Shoreline that year, and a few other times there.

I just seen this on your website xhefri...

Now there are all kinds of stories about these finishes. One is that a guy worked at Fender for about 1.5 years and he was the only one there who knew how to do these finishes. He quit so they stopped....so the legend goes. Mike Edridge at Fender, at one time, stated Fender could still do these finishes but would charge a whopping amount of money to do so.

Who is this Mike Eldridge you speak of?

Xhefri: I think you might want to fix that typo on you're site - it's Mike Eldred, not Eldridge. I don't know if this is your "friend" popping up in a different guise or if this was a legit question.
