I've been searching ebay for this family of guitars for a while now, finally pulled the trigger: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181160039708?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_2781wt_1062

Serial number begins E4, which I've heard was an exceptional run of guitars. 1988.

Let me know what you guys think. I put in a "Best offer" expecting the seller to counter, but he accepted. I read the description and discovered that the middle pickup has been replaced, as has the pick guard and volume pot. xhefri examined the guitar, his comments are at the bottom of the listing.

My first post BTW! Looking for feedback on my purchase as this is my first stratocaster in the Plus family.

There's no cherryburst Plus as far as I can tell.

Ditto for the siennaburst Pluses too.

Surely it's one of Jeff's custom Plus builds, though I'm not as 100% certain.

Deluxe Strat Pluses didn't came into surface until 1989!

John C, who are you :?:

The serial number lookup gives the following:

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton or Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1984 - 1988

Could it be a guitar that was rebuilt from various stratocaster parts?

I just want to make sure everything is legit. I don't necessarily care about resell value, I'm looking for a good player's guitar.

I just took a quick look at this one - it is kind of an odd bird but with Fender you just never know what they could have been doing.

Like chromeface I don't recall them doing a cherry bust or sienna burst/ash body back then; I don't recall that sienna burst happening until the mid-90s (on the Lonestar, Roadhouse and Big Apple models). It is definitely all Fender parts; it could be the 1988 Strat Plus neck and pickups in a later body - the Lace Sensors appear to be gold logo but I'm going by the sticker on the back of them in the shot where the pickguard is removed; I can't tell the color of the logos on the covers through the filters on the photos. The pickguard and back plate have definitely been changed out - note the "Chandler" sticker on the back of the pickguard.

It's certainly a nice looking Strat any way you slice it.

Well, it appears that I may have bought a partscastor. The neck is certainly 1988 and it has the original Sperzel locking tuners. The body appears to be more recent as you all have suspected.

If the lace sensor pickups are indeed the gold version, than this is not a deluxe plus.

Obviously it's a little disappointing and it hurts the value. Hopefully not too much though, as it still looks nice and comes with a fender hard shell case.

Not to mention the tremsetter device fitted on that siennaburst Hot-Rodded American Strat body.

Most impressive was the fact that the seller sought out our much respected colleague with respect to the authenticity of the piece.

I had a guitar a lot like that. Mine was a Lonestar body in that finish, but with Texas Specials and a SD Pearly Gate pickups. And it had a 1987 Strat Plus neck on it. I kept the neck, and sold the rest of it. Was a nice combo though, I just needed the neck for something else.

Deluxe Plus was an Ash veneered alder body for some time, then they came out in solid ash. Some even solid Alder. Sienna Burst is not a colour they came in, the American Lonestar Strat is the guitar the put this colour on the block. However I've seen some in solid colours too.

It's hard to tell what is fake and what isn't with these guitars, Fender was inconsistent with this model.

I bought my Strat Plus while being on Vacation in the States. At the time I was looking for a Highway 1 Strat as my first "serious Guitar". But after some unsuccesful browsed stores, a guy in a Las Vegas music shop pulled out the strat plus and it immediately felt right!

Well, that was 2004, and the guitar, though being my number since then, has changed a lot.
That´s what it looks like now:

Here it is in it's original condition:

Changes have been, new electronics and and Suhr Landau Singlecoils/SSV Humbucker, a new pickguard and some not so convincing diy relic attempts. Also, I have replaced the american standard two point tremolo with one of those two point vintage tremolos of the classic player strats!
Still this guitar plays nearly every gig and despite of some recent GAS for a Custom Shop 1960s Strat, I hope that my PLUS will stay my number for many years to come!

Nice Strats in this thread!

Hey Silhouette89, Wow, you have put some miles on it—a true relic look on the way. Thanks for sharing!

Hi all looking for some answers to a few questions. I review Xhefri's website constantly and I am hoping you all and he have some comments on the following. Here are my latest two fantastic purchases. First one is an 89-90 midnight blue plus that was NOS! I literally took all of the protective plastic off of this one. It plays and sounds great but it is WAY heavier than any other strat plus I have owned and that's quite a few. Wondering what the wood might be other than the standard alder that would make it weigh so much it feels like a Les Paul around 8-9 pounds I would guess. Second is a very early plus in fiesta red. I did not see on Xhefri's website the relative scarcity of fiesta red although I think it may be right up there. Enjoy the photos and would love to hear your comments..

Nice! Sometimes with these Strats I have had a real heavy one, way heavier than normal. I found them to be one of two things—but in both cases Butt Cuts of wood. In other words, a selection of wood that came from the lower part of a tree, making the wood more dense and heavy. On two occasions, I also found that the body was ash. There must have been some kind of blemish that QC would not let through in a natural finish, so it was primed and sprayed a solid color.

Take care of the Midnight blue. They chip and crack super easy as the finish is usually really thick.

Thanks for pointing out about me not mentioning the scarcity of Fiesta Red. Yes, rare indeed and always a 87-90 color. I will check my website. I hope to do some serious updating to this website soon. I did update the Strat Plus DX page and soon will be reworking the Ultra page. I just picked up a late 97 Ultra with a curly maple top opposed to the normal flame type. Really nice guitar! I will try to post some picts soon. THANKS FOR SHARING YOU NEW BABIES!!! :D

@xhefri

Did the Ultras ever came with gold hardware? I've seen a few mini floyd rose bridges in gold while surfing on the web.

I have never seen one, except a Custom Shop neck set with gold hardware. That is not to say a few were not produced in the non-CS models though.
