It has been about two years since I posted over here but I see that Xhefri is still sharing his genius on these guitars and should have his own sticky. Hope all is cool with you Xhefri and though I used to talk with you on your site you were a member here who never posted. I don't know if you remember me PM'ing you on Ebay and telling you to come over here as everyone was asking a million questions on the Plus guitars at the time as I just looked at page 1 and saw I refereed to you as the Guru of these guitars which you indeed are.

Dear straycat113, Wow I was just thinking about you the other day. I remember getting a message from you encouraging me to get involved with the Fender Forum, which I did. But I am hardly a genius, just a little OCD really. The reason I was thinking about you was due to my contemplation of this Forum, and how it constantly evolves. When I started getting involved more there were some regulars on here and we all had a great time sharing and joking. Some of those people left, but there are still a few (even you mentioned you had not posted for 2 years). One Forum member, whom I became friends with on the phone, told me he had become disillusioned with this Forum, but now is checking in from time to time. I guess that is where I kind of at too. Anyhow, as all this was running through my head, I thought about you and your invite a few years back. Even though I had a membership, I really never started posting until you told me I should and pointed out this thread we are on right now. Great to hear from you. Hope all is well!

My main guitar is a 1990 Strat Plus in sunburst that my little brother bought for me new in 1990. It has a couple of good size gashes in the body courtesy of my youngest daughter dropping it at a school jazz band rehearsal  .

Tonight it goes under the knife as I install the EC mid boost system into it.

I can't wait to see what I can do with it once that is in.

LOL, been watching that and laughing. $10k for a Plus with a matching headstock? Good grief! Not going to happen. I saw one of these sell on eBay a while back for around $2000 though, a bit more realistic.

That is the same guitar. The guy bought it for $2550 and is selling it under a different eBay name for $10K. Hope he gets it because that means all of mine just went up in value! LOL

Have any of you been watching the asking prices on Strat Plus' these day (like on eBay) etc. Man some people think these things are worth gold. Funny thing is, some people are getting high prices. Saw a Taos Turquoise go for almost $2000 the other day..... crazy.

I am working a deal for an early 90s Ultra, the seller says the color is "Smoke Grey" but i couldnt find any info on that.

Hes sending more pictures, I will try to post one.

Is Smoke Grey a Fender Color, or custom shop, or wrong name for pewter maybe?

Well, they had pewter strat pluses, but not ultras. Ultras were only available in a limited number of finishes. This isn't a good pic, but might be this color.

WOW that thread now has some 108,562 visits! That says something, doesn't it?

Fender should resurrect and update the Plus line. Reintroduce sensors also. ... One has to ask however, was the American Deluxe intended to be on the same par with the Strat Plus, or the Plus Deluxe?

The answer? YES. In fact in 1998 Fender released some of the new Deluxe American Strats and even called some of them "PLUS". They did the same thing with some Teles too. Look at the Tele below. I bought this almost new from the orginal owner, so it had all the paperwork, case candy, etc. The tag from Fender said it was a Tele Plus Deluxe!!! The paper work stated: 1999 Fender American Limited Edition Telecaster Custom Deluxe Plus. The neck pickup is a special gold plated DeArmond Humbucker and the bridge pickup is a Fender Noiseless Tele Pickup. Odd eh?

Then these Deluxe American Strats had a lot of the features of a Plus, and some in 98 were called Plus' but that name quickly disappeared! The one below was an early 2000 model.

Sorry had to post this here.

Interesting to note the above guitars pearl tuner buttons :) also does the Strat HSS have an ebony board? It does look very dark...

So my thoughts are the current Deluxe line on par with the Plus Deluxe? And where do you think the Plus line would sit today should you compare to the current line up?

No, only rosewood or maple.

Fender did an American Deluxe HSS with an ebony fingerboard in 2004. This guitar was available with the choice of quilted or flamed hand-bent maple tops, backrouted controls (no pickguard) and a variety of beautiful translucent finishes.

Only a very few of these guitars were fitted with a mini Floyd bridge.

Discontinued in 2006/07.

This is a transitional Strat Ultra as the LSR nut suggests.

I think 1992 marked the transition from the Wilkinson to the LSR.

LSR roller nuts didn't came into surface until 1993.

There's a handful of "modified" Pewter Pluses which are wired like an Ultra.
