Yeah I was watching it, went up quite a bit today.

A bunch of people in Sweden and Australia were asking questions about shipping. He told them it would be almost $400 to ship to Australia. I guess maybe he was going to take it there himself. lol.

I have a 1988 Plus.

Here's the story behind mine. I actually bought a Ibanez 540 Radius from Guitar Center, but I wanted it in blue and they didn't have any. So they told me they could order me from the factory and it would take a few weeks. So I said ok, paid for it, and waiting.......and waited......and waited. I think about a month went by and it didn't arrive, so I went down to find out what was up, while waiting to talk to the sales guy about it, I spotted the Strat Plus and started messing with it and thought it was an awesome guitar. So when the sales guy come over, I told him to cancel the order for the 540 and I'll take the Plus. I already had a Strat, but I just had to have the Plus.

Here's some pics.

$540 - WOW that is a steal!! (unless you bought it in the late 90s)I thought I saw your baby earlier - They're cousins...Mine is a platinum blonde and yours is a platinum brunette - yea baby!

I still waiting on some stuff - strings, fret polish, etc. before I do the recondition.

I must be mad... I've written a two page recondition procedure document and I'm still not sure it's finished yet or sequenced properly! Just a ton of stuff I want to do to take it from dead mint to dead perfect without killing it.

Thanks for the headsup - I've been watching that baby - looks like the guy is loaded! - He started at $1499 originally - It looks to me as though the body is vintage white however, it's a drop dead gorgeous specimen to my eyes! I'd guess it will sell at around $1050.00

Here's the link of the one I described: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Stratocaster-Plus-Strat-1997-Near-Mint_W0QQitemZ230377748255QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item35a395771f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I paid like $700 for mine brand new in 1988. I meant I cancelled the order for the Ibanez 540. I wonder what the Ibanez would of been worth now? lol

I picked up and Ibanez once and was not the least bit inspired. I think you made the right decision.

I dismantled my new pewter Plus today - good news and bad news:

I discovered that the neck is a John Cruse - WOW!
I also found that the guitar had undergone some serious mods:
All the pickups had been changed out for Lace Silvers (I'm OK with this though), the Tremsetter (which I personally like) had been removed and five Mexican (silver) trem springs installed, and the TBX had been removed and replaces with a standard tone pot... I think I'll get a Chromacaster in there soon. Really the worst soldering job I've ever seen... what a mess! So I was not too surprised that I killed it. I shot the pots with Deoxit and I think the volume pot failed.

The body, neck, wilky (over and under) and Shallers are all perfect shape however and I thrilled to have a John Cruse neck.

I found more fret wear than I had seen originally as I polished the frets. Considering all of the above I'll have to down grade the condition to near mint.

I'll get the guitar to Bishop, my tech, he'll do the frets and bring her back to life. I miss my new baby already. Currently shopping for another Plus or Ultra - Help me... I'm sick!

At least pots are pretty cheap to replace.

I picked up a replacement neck today for my new strat plus project. I'll have to do until I can afford something from Fender.

I also got a black pickguard. I think I'm going to put the extra loaded Strat Plus pickguard on Ebay to help pay for the new black pickups I want. I think I'm going to go with the Emerald, Silver, and purple set. The Emerald is supposed to be more bluesy and the Purple is supposed to be hotter.

I wasn't at home when the auction for the one bridge I was trying to get ended, so I lost it by like 25 cents or something, but there's one more that ends tomorrow.

Is this for your Red Plus? What neck are you going to use? I'm sure that Emerald, Silver, Purple set will sound wicked bad! I'm crazy for Lace pickups. I was so surprised to see that someone had changed the gold to silver on my new Plus! Unfortunately the backs of the pots were black from excessive heat. It works out nicely because my Blue Pearl Dust has the stock Gold. What bridge are you considering?

I just going to use an american Standard bridge, like what is on my other pluses. Since the 2 post for the trem are already there.

The neck is a might mite 22 fret Soft V neck with rosewood. I got it for $85 today, don't know if that's a good price but the guy was close to me. I have to drill the a few holes for the locking tuners, just for the pins that hold it in place. And I would like to put a gloss finish on it, and maybe tint it a little darker, it's really bright right now.

There's a place called Atomic guitars near me, they do custom paint jobs and stuff. So i think I might stop by there Monday and see if they can coat the neck for me.

My strat plus currently does not have the tremsetter. That's the way I bought it 10 years ago and like I said, I have not changed anything. Would it be worth the money to get one back in there? I don't really have tuning problems with it as is. What do you think guys?

You're better off without it, in my opinion. I'd happily ditch the tremsetter that came installed in my ultra — but the tremolo cavity has already been butchered; may as well leave it there now.

Yeah I would rather just have the trem claw and springs. My 88 plus came with the claw and springs, the blue 91 came with the tremsetter but the guy switched it out with trem claw and springs.
And the Candy apple red looks like it originally had the claw and springs.

My '91 had the Tremsetter, and had no problems, since it was my non-whammy strat. I never was much of a trem person, unless it was a Floyd like on my frankie reps. I also like the Fender Floyd. had a Ultra with that system. just so much fun to use, and it was very stable as well. I have always wondered if there is a Plus or Ultra out there with both a Fender-Floyd, AND a Tremsetter...? that would be an interesting thing to find indeed!

I'm going to put the Tremsetter back in my Cruse Plus. I really like the effect they have. You can bend the nuts off a string and your low E will not drop in pitch, yet you retain all the functionality of the trem, etc.

EDIT: Right - like a subsequent poster states - you loose the Beck "flutter" capability but on the positive side, straight notes loose the flutter component and this creates a less complex note envelope that I prefer.

Here's the install video - easy peasy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvl0fLOzwi8
