Recently acquired this.

It's a custom shop with a set neck and gold hardware.

I'm beginning to think I don't like the floyd rose bridge. I replaced the strings and didn't realize how tight the locking mechanism has to be to hold the strings.

I was playing and the g-string popped loose during a bend. Got it back in there and really torqued it but I'm nervous now. :?

Otherwise it's a nice axe. Nice tone and the feel of the ebony fingerboard is really a treat. I may never go back to rosewood. :P

The mistake people sometimes make with these FR DX Bridges is not to either get a really clean cut on the string, cutting well above the ball and windings; or not putting the string down into the whole far enough. If one loosens the Allen screw enough that the steel ferrule could fall out, then the string can go to the very bottom of the hole and the whole length of the ferrule will be tightened down on the string. Does not take a lot of pressure to hold it that way.

Is this the same guitar you emailed me about? How is the action on it down below the 12th fret? Nice looking guitar!

Yep. That's the one.

The action is not good on the upper registers but it is because the studs on the tremolo are set "to high". I put "to high" in quotes because the previous owner may have been a slide player - in which case the setup is excellent.

I'm gonna tinker with it myself but I'll eventually get my tech to do a proper setup and get it "right" - again "right" being a matter of opinion.

What do you mean "steel ferule could fall out"? That scares me.

When you look at the top of the bridge you see the round chrome steel part that the string slides underneath. That is called a ferrule (small chrome barrel part). When you loosen the Allen screw on the back edge of the string saddle, that little ferrule becomes loose. Take one out and look at it some time. You will see how the Allen screw tightens down on it and how the string slides down inside the hole where that ferrule sits. When you tighten the screw the ferrule presses on the string. I think the ferrules have a flat spot where the screw hots against. If it is not in properly you could have problems with the string slipping out. Confused?   If so I will take some picts and show you!

Actually that explains it very well. Thanks,

Are most, if not all, of the Fenders offered at this site fake? The prices seem too low.

Fake. Although, these are good fakes.. They are getting very good at counterfeit original products. However, the fit and finish of these instruments I would put money on are rubbish.. Pickups, hardware, neck and fret dressing etc...

Way to tell is the logo on the neck, no walnut plug near the nut, the font of the serial number and logo, the 'yellow' finish on the neck... Oh I could go on and on..

I had a 97 Strat Plus Deluxe. Great guitar but I always hated the roller nut. I had the nut replaced with a bone nut, what an improvement in tone. But hey it's all relative. I don't remember why I sold the guitar, wish I hadn't. There are a lot of guitars I've sold and wish I hadn't.

I have all original parts saved(lace gold bridge and pot,and hard case original too).

Im the first owner,i think i buying it in 96.
Sounds amazing and the modifications you can see, seymour dhuncan hot rails(old one)and a 500k volume pot(dimarzio one i belive),the knobs colors is a fancy thing.
Is a heavy guitar and at this moment need a little tremolo/hipshot adjusment.
I have other guitars, but this is my pride and joy,the first serious guitar that i buyed with my first serious job salary.

Excuse me for my english.Thx for read.

Just wanted to show a pict of my new player Strat Plus. This is a 1987 American Standard Strat body (same as the Strat Plus models) but earlier being from early 1987. It has the screw into the wood bridge studs rather than the brass ferrules and steel pins. I slapped my well used 1991 Maple neck on it and a Custom wired Ultra pickguard with Lace Sensors. I love the aged Vintage White. A little bit like a Jeff Beck look but with a better option of pickup voices IMHO.

A few years go i buffed this body out to get rid of some scratches. One can see one lighter area where the yellowed finish rubbed off down into the finish less affected by UV. I don't mind, as I kind of like the look and it is a player that gets a bit kicked around!

To be honest I find the Floyd on the Ultra to be my favorite trem on any Fender and though I have not looked on Ebay in ages it is about time these guitars started going up in value. So many great plaers used these guitars and for some mysterious reason they never seemed to get the respect for what great guitars they are. Though when I was a heavy Ebay junkie I always found it strange you would rarely see any listings for Strat Ultras. Kind of made me think everyone had then hidden in a closet or under the bed lol. It has been about two years since I posted over here but I see that Xhefri is still sharing his genius on these guitars and should have his own sticky. Hope all is cool with you Xhefri and though I used to talk with you on your site you were a member here who never posted. I don't know if you remember me PM'ing you on Ebay and telling you to come over here as everyone was asking a million questions on the Plus guitars at the time as I just looked at page 1 and saw I refereed to you as the Guru of these guitars which you indeed are.Cool that your player Ultra at present is the same color as mine-Image
