OMG - I scored a mint E4 1987 Strat Plus Pewter/maple today with OHSC. I have only seen one pic and it did look mint. The seller said it looked like someone bought it and stored it away for 22 years! I'll post some pics when I get her home!

I have the plus. I handed it to my 22 year old son Brian and asked him how old he thought it was... he said one year!

It is dead mint, the knurls on the plastic knobs are still "sharp". I plays like butter... not a single scratch on the pickguard or pickups... Lace Sensor logo on each pickup is perfect! Can't wait to post some pics. I'm off on Friday so I promise... or Sunday because I'll have to the the ritiual tear down. It shipped from Danvers, Mass to Fred, VA and was still perfectly in tune... rediciulous!

So the Sperzel tuner for my D string, looks like maybe it's been replaced? So I would like to know, if maybe you guys have something different, or maybe mine is just out of order or something.

I read on the Sperzel site that the tuners are supposed to be 2 short, 2 mdeium and 2 tall post from high E to Low E, mine is 3 short, 1 tall, and 2 medium

Also the gear inside that tuner is different from the rest (1st Gear)

Image

and the back screw is also different (3rd one)

If someone with Sperzel tuners on their strat plus would let me know what they have, I would greatly apperciate it.

Thanks

Jason, this looks correct...exactly like my 88 plus!

Congrats. I'm supposed to get the Midnight Blue Strat Plus today. So if it comes I'll post pics also.

I need to stop and get strings on the way home today, and then put the neck on it.

One of the pups on mine might be bad though, So I might have to replace that sometime.

Well I got my blu strat plus body today, and also the red strat plus body came. So here's a quick pic before I have to go pickup my son.

So the blue one came with everything but the neck, but I had the neck already.

The red one was just the body, but I had the loaded pickguard already from the same guitar I got the neck from. I don't have a neck for this one yet, so what's on it is a 2002 MIM neck from the guitar I'm painting.
Also I need a bridge for this one (watching a few Ebay auctions)

And the pewter one is the strat plus I had from 1988.

I was eyeballing that body on ebay too! Let us have a peek when she's online!

You were watching the blue one or the red one? Both bodies are in really good shape. The red one has some scuff marks on it, but I think they'll rub off. And the blue one has 1 chip, but it's under the trem plate.

I think I got a good deal on the blue one, even if I had to spend a few hundred on a neck, it wouldn't of been too bad. I got the strings on and tested it out. The volume on the neck pickup is quite a bit lower than the rest of the pickups. I think I'm going to leave it for now though, maybe raise the height of it a little. And then maybe I'll add the red lace sensor pickup I have in the future.

I sold the lipstick red body for $320, and then I saw the CAR one for $99 so I watched it all week and it was getting down to a few minutes to go and no one bid on it so I bid on it and it was the only bid. There was a white strat body with the swimming pool route that sold for like $240 and a inca silver one that sold for $150 and the CAR one got no bids. I couldn't believe it. Think it was the way the guy listed it, said it was a fender, but didn't know from what model of strat.

I think I'm going to turn it into my next project though. I'm thinking of doing my own version of what fender might do if they made a new Strat Plus.
So I'm thinking all black pickguard, since the originals were only in white, with black lace sensor pickups, like the silver, blue and red ones, cause you have to have Lace Pickups in it, even though I'm sure Fender would use something else now, like Hot Noiseless or something. And all black knobs and switch tips.

For the neck, I would like a soft V with rosewood, but I don't know how hard or expensive that would be, so I might have to think of a few alternatives. For tuners I'm going to go with the Schaller brushed metal like on my 88. And I don't know if I want to add a LSR nut or not.

And I'm going to go for the S1 switch in it to I think. Probably leave off the TBX cause I don't use it much. I just need to come up with the cash now lol.

Now that's a really interesting idea Jason. Create a 2010 Strat Plus! I wrote to one of the Fender execs and suggested that they do a reissue. I'd for sure buy one!

I have a beautiful 2004 American Deluxe 50th but there is something about the Plus that sends me. I think it's the 'glass" sound that the Lace seem to impart to the tone. I'm sick and obsessed with Lace Pickups. I know alot of players hate them, I heard one dude ranting that the loose power after a time (rediculuos!). I can't seem to get enought of them!

Good luck on all those cool plus projects.

Who will get the next plus and what will it be!!!!

TO JASON SD:

On my Strat Ultra I have a set of Fender /Schaller tuners and locking strap pins. I don't know what the Plus' had. I'm looking at the pictures posted and they look like Schallers to me. So why are we talking up Sperzels? Also, if your locking tuners are installed correctly, and you have a Wilkinson roller nut, you won't need the string trees.

Because some strat plus came with Sperzels. I like the schaller's myself, but the 91 I have had Sperzels on it.

It ended up selling for $805 including freight. A good deal but not a steel!
