Im new to this but I can say that is not a Strat Plus..if you take a look at this link you will see that it clearly says all Strat Plus's have "swimming pool" route in the body no exceptions I can also tell because I have an E4xxxx serial that the bridge is definitely not correct
I too look forward to seeing what the mystery body is on your guitar.
http://xhefriguitars.com/page2.html that link shows pictures of what the body of your guitar should be

Well we can't tell if it has a swimming pool route or not without seeing under the pickguard. The nut and Sperzel tuners could be correct or added later to a standard neck. I am not sure about the E4 serial number or the hardtail bridge.

My best guess - Strat Plus neck and pickup assembly on an American Standard hardtail body - they did make hardtail American Standards in the 1990s and on into the 2000s. Dose the body have the proper micro-tilt on it (small hole in the neck plate)? A Fender body would have the micro-tilt. The neck looks fine - looks like the nut and tuners are original.

Regarding the case - I don't know when Fender switched from the rectangular molded case to the red logo fitted case but it was probably around 1990.

I have seen a couple of these now (like yours, the first picture looks really odd to me, but the ones of yours look like the real deal.) Odd thing is, all of them were the sunburst like this one. If could be that they could be ordered that way, or Fender (famous for inconsistencies!) released a few like this. My guess it is a 1988 neck on a 1989 hard tail body....please take the guitar apart and check the route (which I will bet 99% it is a swimming pool) and the date stamps.

Any chance it could be the 1990/ish American Standard with the Lace Pickups?
The one that is hard to tell apart from the Plus?
Toppscore :)

Nope, because it has the Wilkinson roller nut, no string trees and locking tuners! All Plus features!

Thx for the prompt replies, I appreciate it!

@John C - Yes it does have the Micro tilt in the Neck Plate.

@Xhefri - The first picture was taken from earlier in the thread just showing for eg. the same finish and maple neck, roller nut and locking tuners as mine. I find it interesting that you have actually seen a few in sunburst. One other thing I wanted to query is the color of the Lace Sensor pickups. Nowhere else have I seen this cream looking type but rather white. Is this just age you think as the print color of words "Lace Sensor" is also faded.

I will then definately take it apart and the check the route and get back to you. I saw this link http://xhefriguitars.com/page2.htmland it gives me a better idea what it should look like as I don't have much experience in these sort of bits.

It will be interesting to finally figure out if this is all original or not!
Will keep you informed. Thx for all your help!

You'll have a blast.
Xhefri's help has provided very useful info for my recent purchases
of both a 1996 Fender Plus Deluxe and a 1990 Fender Plus Ultra.

Nothing like adding different guitars for different sounds,
tones and options to your arsenal. Take care. Toppscore 8)
