This is a fairly rare find. It is a Aluminum Body Violet Metal Burst Strat Plus that is New Old Stock. There were about 120 of these made. They came in three colors, some with Rosewood fretboards and some with Maple. Sorry the pictures are not very good. Will be taking more on a better day! Of all these they made, this one is one of the rarest of the group. These were released in 1995 and discontinued in 1996. This one is a 1994 Anniversary model (sporting a 1993 serial number!). I checked the serial number and it matches with what Fender had on record so it is the real deal from 1994 and must have come out late in 94 right on the release of these in 1995.

(751) Blue Metal Burst: Rosewood @ 20 made, Maple @ 20 made

(752) Violet Metal Burst: Rosewood @ 20 made, Maple @20 made

(753) Stars and Stripes: Rosewood @ 20 made, Maple @ 20 made

Total Made around 120.

No need to hijack this thread about tone wood, but with all the debate on tone woods, I was of course very interested to see what this would sound like. Unplugged it is very acoustic. Plugged in it sounded like any of my other Strat Plus'!!! Ummmm.... I could not tell any difference anyhow, from any other Plus with Gold Laces!

Very attractive metal guitar. Is it light or heavy?
When plugged in, is that when it has the tone from wood body "Plus'"?
What material is it made from?
Toppscore :)

Thanks Xhefri for getting us back on track. That is a sweet find. I remember seeing an aluminum bodied Strat in the mid 90's in a guitar shop in Lubbock. It was really lightweight and a lttle neck heavy...but cool. I never got to play it plugged in but it really resonated when played unplugged.

I was pleasantly surprised that this one is nearly the same weight as an Alder Plus. Feels very normal, but cool to the touch since it is aluminum. I do not think the strings have even been changed on it as it was bought buy a music store from Fender and the owner tucked it away all these years in his private collection. I will have this one and another one posted on my website soon. And your right, this does resonate quite well unplugged!

My first Strat plus I hope to grow old old with it, Love the neck..the gold lace pickups, the sound..I could go on for days. As you can see in the pic the previous owner took amazing care of it..all original. Just had it setup incredible..I always thought Strats were kind of a cliche Im wrong

Does Fender consider the N3 pickups to be a replacement for the Lace Sensors?
or, Does Fender use both N3 & Lace Sensor? or something else?

I hate to continue the derail but at this time the only Fender that might possibly be shipping with Lace Sensors would be the James Burton Tele - I read a post over on tdpri.com (Telecaster Discussion Page Reissue - called "reissue" because the orginal was hacked to death back in the early 2000s) that claims the unmarked pickups on the Burton are still Lace Sensors under the covers.

Fender went from Lace Sensors to "Vintage Noiseless" pickups on the first version American Deluxes (1998-2003), then to the SCN ("Sumarium Cobalt Noiseless) pickups that were designed by Bill Lawrence on the second version of the American Deluxes (2004-2009); then to the N3s on the current version of the American Deluxes (2010 to present). You could consider them the "spritual successors" to the Lace Sensors.

Thanks. I have seen new James Burton guitars for sale.
Looks like an intermediate $1000-$2000 guitar line.

???? A USA Burton lists for $2,400 and is one of the most expensive Fender production line Teles - some of the "Telebration" guitars and the two AV Thinline Teles are more expensive. Of course now we have the Fender Select line that is much more expensive than the other Fender Production series.

However, the USA Burton Tele's price would be in line with where the Plus/Plus Deluxe/Ultra fit into the line back in their day. The Ultra was not as big a price jump over the Plus Deluxe as the current Fender Select models are over the next-most-expensive models.

The James Burton Fender Telecaster line with
numerous listings for $1000/ish must be MIMs.

Here are a couple of snaps of my plus-

It's a 92 Plus in Firestorm Red, I've owned it since 97 and it is my first and only Strat.

I had no idea of the rarity of the finish until recently (neither did the shop that sold it me based on what I paid for it :D ).

My apologies for the poor photography  .

It is interesting to see these side by side as the finish will vary some from one guitar to another. It has been reported to me that there are a few fakes floating around, but they are easy to spot. The second picture was taken on my work bench so you see the reflections of the Venetian Blind on the body.

This one has been upgraded with Chrome Dome pickups, different pickguard and knobs.
