Thought I would send in my take on Xhefri's surf green-bahama green combo.. Since we had high 70's temps in NH yesterday I decided to take the pics outside and enjoy the way warmer than normal March air.

Ah VERY NICE!!!!! and in the 70s in NH in March???? I do not want to hear about it!!! We still have snow..... Your Surf Green Strat Plus shows the variation on that color. Compare it to the one I pictured and yours is lighter colored. On the 88 Fender add they have one and it is even lighter yet. I have owned around 6 Surf Green Plus and all but 2 where different shades.

I thought my surf green was on the lighter side. I know that '88 catalog and I've never seen one that light colored. Yours is a nice darker green. Mine is in really clean shape but I think it has seen some daylight as opposed to being stored in the case. You can see some blueish hue coming through on my surf green. Have you ever seen that before? It is mainly around the edges. There are no marks or dings on this one, but it seems to be quite faded. Faded but a nice shade.

I can't make out the blueish hue much in the pictures, but the more I look, well..... it seems like...maybe...ummm my eyes playing tricks on me??? Now you know why some people call the Surf Green color of my Strat Plus Sea Foam Green, which is more blueish and brighter in color. But it is not SFG. When one does a Google search on SFG you get a lot of different ideas, but I think Curtis Novack has it right on that one, indicating that this below sample was the exact Sea Foam Green used on the 1963 Jazzmasters (aka used on 56 Buick):

He says this is Surf Green (aka used on 57 Chevy):

I had one Surf green that was a light milky green. Man a lot of variations on this color. One I had was dark and yellowish looking. I pull the pickguard and there was this beautiful nice green under it. One could tell the guitar's clear coat had severely yellowed.

Same as Jeff's own guitar!

WOW what a rare bird! A Strat Plus NOS from the Custom Shop in Aged Natural. Never saw those CS Pluses in that finish. This one features a white pearloid pickguard and a lightweight ash body with SSS routing instead of the bathtub style found on a stock Strat Plus. The body is finished in a thin nitrocellulose lacquer.

The neck is spec'd with a modern C profile, a 12" fingerboard radius and 22 medium jumbo frets. It has a thin satin finish, so with the 'rolled' fingerboard edges, it has all the nice elements of a 'played in' guitar. Set-up with a nice fluid playing action, plus no choking out when you rip into those blues bends. Strung up with a set of 10's, it still has an easy slinky vibe about it.

As per the original Strat Plus and indeed the Jeff Beck Strat the guitar is fitted with a set of locking tuners, the LSR roller nut and the modern fulcrum trem. This will give you trouble free tuning.

Anyone who has seen Jeff Beck use this trem can vouch for it. It also has a smooth and positive feel!

Note that 'aged natural' does not refer to it having an aged or relic finish, as this is a NOS shinny gloss finish. Therefore 'aged natural' refers to it having a nice 'aged' tint within the finish.

Sometimes natural finished guitars look like they need a suntan, or have just come out of an Ikea store, as they are to pure, but this finish looks very classy.

After 1991 it was a common feature, but not all of them came with the tremsetter. Before 1991 some did. I have not seen them on the 87-88s unless added later.

Hello,

Here is ma 1989's Stat Plus with some modifications:

- I changed the Wilkinson nut for a LSR roller nut to allow bigger gouge strings (11-49) ;
- I changed the original white Fender-Lace Sensor Gold pickups for three black Lace Sensor Hot Gold pickups with the Hot Bridge => It sounds really great with the same brightness (a little warmer) and with more output!

NB : I have a Hipshot Tremsetter!

The beast:

Welcome to the Forum Graon. Sweet looking Strat Plus. That finish is what was called Antique Burst, which is very close to the Brown Sunburst they had at the same time. Brown Sunburst had a faint band of red or somtimes even yellow around it as the 2nd color. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you and you're welcome :)! I really liked your website which contibutes to increase a lot my knowledge of Strat's Plus family.

I'm interested by your opinion about the "new" Lace Hot Gold pickup? Also, I suspect to have one of the rubber part (of the nut) beeing cracked (after one year:(). What about replacing it (if it's true) by a home made rubber part ? Did you once try that?

Best regards

Ummm one of the rubber pieces in your nut has a crack in it? That is odd. that would be really hard to fix and the bummer is that you will loose a ball bearing pretty easy on your next string change if your not careful. The nut could cause string buzzing too with out the rubber damper. email me and maybe I can help you with some ideas. (xhefri@gmail.com)

Thank you for your quick answer. Yes, the rubber piece from the 6th string is a little cracked but it currently stays in the nut and there is absolutely no string buzz for the moment. The ball bearing is stable too. I will keep an eye on it.

Isn't it a 3-Color Sunburst more than an Antique Burst? It' not obvious on my picture above but one can see some red area between the black and brown ones. Check it ou here: http://www.fender.com/fr-FR/support/col ... t&color=27

This first one is Sunburst and the next is Antique Burst. The main difference in the color of the center. Antique Burst is a bit darker and blends in the red band a lot more, often to the point where it hardly can be seen. Sometimes there is no red at all, being just a 2-color burst. Sometimes it is a bit confusing as they can be very close to the same. The Strat Ultra that I use on my Forum signature is Antique Burst, as it said that on the paper work that came with the guitar.

If I were you I'd be on the lookout for another nut now - that problem isn't going to cure itself. The good news is it should be an easy swap.

Hi Jeff, and all the other Plus people. Just discovered this thread and thought I'd show off my 1988 Bahama Green Strat Plus. It's pretty much stock except for the Tremsetter I added. Right now I own around 20 other guitars (mostly Strats), but this is probably the most beautiful I have. Not counting the Hello Kitty guitar, of course, ha!

Hmmm. don't see a way to upload a pic so here's a link:

https://picasaweb.google.com/mickmacguy ... directlink

I'm also selling a very nice Mystic Black Plus (rosewood neck) if anyone is interested. I'd consider a trade for a Surf Green Plus with a maple neck, or ????

Have a great holiday weekend, all!
