No. The 1988 is all original, I never even took the pickguard or neck off.

The 1991 I got a few weeks ago. I traded an 2000 American Standard for it. So I took that apart just to check dates, body has a date of like 10/21/91 and the neck is like 9/17/91 So I'm pretty sure it's orginal neck and body.

I wasn't big on the Lipstick Red, but I thought it was a pretty good trade, so I figured I would learn to like the Lipstick Red, but then I saw that blue one on Ebay that was the same year, so I figured I would try to get it. So now I have the red one all apart lol. Also the back of the body has a lot of paint chips, the blue looked in a little better shape.

All my guitars are all original, except the one I'm painting, and I swapped out the bridge pickup in my first guitar, a 1987 MIJ Squier the other day.

Cool... personally I think the Lipstick red is really hot but I can relate to wanting a cleaner body on your plus.

btw - I just rec'd a plus manual from Ed Treat at Fender. I'll ask him if I can post a link to it on this thread.

The blue body I bought on ebay comes with a orignal manual, which I didn't even realize until after I won the auction. So that's pretty cool. I long lost all the stuff that came with my strat. I remember it came with like a red white and blue fender bumper sticker.

Now that I got the red strat apart, I'm looking at the sperzel locking tuners and have some questions. Anyone have spezels on theirs and can help me out? I think I'll need to post pics.

I'll go take some pics and then ask my questions.

So the Sperzel tuner for my D string, looks like maybe it's been replaced? So I would like to know, if maybe you guys have something different, or maybe mine is just out of order or something.

I read on the Sperzel site that the tuners are supposed to be 2 short, 2 mdeium and 2 tall post from high E to Low E, mine is 3 short, 1 tall, and 2 medium

Image

Also the gear inside that tuner is different from the rest (1st Gear)

and the back screw is also different (3rd one)

If someone with Sperzel tuners on their strat plus would let me know what they have, I would greatly apperciate it.

Thanks

I have to wait until I can get home to check the Sperzels on my '91 ultra, but it does look as if the screw (and possibly the tuning post) of the D tuner has been replaced at some point. Typically this would happen if the screw was tightened too much and no longer found a purchase on the string end. From what I've heard over the years, locking tuners of this design should be tight enough to grip the string, but not so tight that the string starts to damage the shaft of the screw or cause its thread to be stripped.

It was probably difficult for the previous owner to find an exact match, and they just figured that it would all be hidden anyway. Which it was!

Something similar happened to me with a valuable nylon string guitar... the screw holding the tuning gear to the end of its post just dropped out one day, and I never saw where it went. The whole tuning assembly for the G string unravelled, and I hit the shops looking for a replacement screw. Nothing fit, and I was being told that the only way I could fix it would be to change all the tuning pegs at a cost of several hundred dollars!

Eventually I was given a bag of broken tuners belonging to cheap classical guitars that were not worth repairing, and by chance there was ONE screw in there that fit my guitar. It's not the same colour as the others, but it's on the underside of the headstock and it holds my tuning peg on just fine. I'd actually forgotten this whole episode until just now... heh.

Just a quick scan - I'm off to work... but I did notice in the manual that there were two part numbers for the machines perhaps implying two distinct heights?

The Eric Clapton neck?

I would like to just buy a neck and have another guitar, but I told my wife I could sell the body and make back some of the money I spent on the blue body. So I don't know how she would feel if I kept it lol.

I have to watch what I'm doing cause I got like 4 guitars in the last 3-4 weeks. :D

WOW! And I thought I was bad for buying 3 in one year. Just 15 years till my kids go to college and I can go back to building my collection again!

If anyone needs the strat plus manual, I can email it to you.

If anyone knows how I can post the manual on my CPU to this thread, let me know and I'll post it.

OMG - I scored a mint E4 1987 Strat Plus Pewter/maple today with OHSC. I have only seen one pic and it did look mint. The seller said it looked like someone bought it and stored it away for 22 years! I'll post some pics when I get her home!

Cool. Can't wait to see pics, I haven't seen any other Pewter ones other than my own. Mine is a 88 with a rosewood neck. It's Mint, has the E4 serial number, but was made in July of 88.
