Nice collection!

I've seen a few ultras go in the $1500-$1700 range recently. Looks like the prices are going up. Of course the new US relic strats are selling for $2000+ here in Japan, so I guess that's not all that high yet.

I don't know if any of you go to the strat-talk forums, but someone put a bunch of strat plus' up for sale over there, like 3 or 4 plus guitars and a couple of american standards from the same time frame.

Guy says it's an ultra, I posted a comment on Youtube saying it wasn't. He posted back with that comment above.

Jason, your right, it is a Strat Plus that someone put on a "built" an Ultra type pickguard setup. Wrong type mini-switch (Fender never used the butterfly handle mini-switches_ and it is in the wrong place. it also has 4 screws holding down the red dually, Fender used 3 screws to hold that down. Also it has an ASH top (such as seen on a DX Plus. Non-chrome parts and a Maple neck! Definitely not a Ultra. Sounds like you took your comments kind of personal! Too bad.....

I just left some comments too- he seems like a type that doesnt like to have his pride hurt. But if someone sold him that as an Ultra... Oh My! :?

Another Strat ultra sighting:

Andy Gill from Gang of Four.

I'm not a fan of the vocoder vocals on this track, but the instrumental stuff sounds great, and there are some good shots of his guitar in this video (especially at the end).

Looks like an early Ultra, the bridge is an American 2-point trem and the pickguard a 3-ply white. Also, the guitar sports a Wilkinson nut and a Silver Sensor in the middle.

BTW the knob for the tone pot affecting the neck pickup is missing.

Here's mine, an '88 in Bahama Green, many mods. See my thread "in search of: tone, or strat plus mods" for the details. '64 neck, Custom Shop '50's pickups, steel trem block, thin moto pickgaurd, bridge pickup on/off switch (7 way), vintage plastic, 5 springs (no Tremsetter). A link to some detail photos:

Or maybe not...see my photo above. The shadow looks like a switch toggle, unless the pot shaft is missing a half. Hard to judge in that grainy pic.

I think it's the tone pot still in that pic.

I don't know how he can tell it's a Silver Lace pickup from that photo though.

Slightly off topic, but do any of you ultra owners have experience with Fender Jazzmasters? My ultra is on the other side of the world right now, and I haven't been able to play it in years (but will thankfully be getting it back in a month or so). Although I wasn't planning on buying another guitar, I recently came across a really nice Jazzmaster that I like a lot. It's a bit pricey, but I know that if I don't buy it, I might not have another chance to get one like this. I have never played Jazzmasters before recently, and I fell in love with the tone of this thing.

I'm just wondering how closely you guys think you can approximate a Jazzmaster tone with the Ultra. If the ultra is unlikely to be able to get similar sounds, than I can snatch it up guilt free, but if you guys think that it's possible to coax similar tones from the ultra, I may wait and take my chances. The thing that got me thinking was that the Jazzmaster pickups are based on P90s and the Lace Blue also tries to approximate that sound. Of course, I have P90s in my Gibson and it sounds nothing like a Jazzmaster, so the ultra may not be able to do it either.

Anyway, I'm basically interested in the Jazzmaster's clean sounds - meaning both the really sparkly/jangly (Stray Cat-ish) sounds it can get from the middle/neck positions and the super twangy bridge sound (think old Johnny Cash) it can get. I guess you have to know Jazzmasters to know the tones I'm talking about.

Thanks!

The Ventures Strat had Gold Lace Sensors and Clapton electronics.

Here's the back of the guitar showing the compartment for the 9V battery powering the Clapton mid-boost circuit.

Hi All,
first post here, I've had my '92 plus deluxe from new, bought for me by my wife. Always thought it was Black Jade, but now believe it could be Mystic Black. 99% of the time it just looks gloss black, when the sun/lights catch it right it turns metallic green. Its all standard apart from the Tremsetter removed, black pearl scratch plate, and has the knobs from my old HM Strat. They have a chunky feel and rubber surface. (Wish I'd kept the rest of the guitar.)
Immaculate condition, apart from some light crazing of the laquer on the back of the neck.
And not for sale! 8)
