Interesting, GM (Holden) Australia put out a colour called "Panther Mica" which was a black that showed a very dark green metallic tinge to it... it sounds identical fyi- but interesting :)

I can't remember if I posted this ultra build on here or not. I had a thread where I showed it coming together. But since this is the Strat Plus/Ultra thread i will post here too!

Hello everyone. First timer here on the Fender Lounge.

I loved this thread and decided to register to share the looks of my own Strat Plus.

I bought it around 2002. It is a 1991 model. The hardware is all Sperzel, but I read somehwere in this thread it is Schaller because of the year? Can anyone confirm that?

I had it 'retired' for the last two years because my main amp, a Marshall DSL401 was out of order and it just didn't sound right with my backup amp, but I decided to ressurect her and sent her to a tech to have the frets restored and to wire a Eric Clapton Mid Boost with her TBX tone control.

I installed a pearloid pickguard to give it a new look. I think it will look amazing with this colour.

I also 'blocked' the trem system like Eric Clapton because I don't use it anyway and I like the more solid feel of the strings as in a Les Paul.

Here's a picture of my Strat in a gig I played last Wednesday after it's been changed both externally and internally.

It looks awesome and plays even more awesomely I can tell you! Neck feels and plays like new now after being refretted and completely plained (scale was ruined). This guitar is PRICELESS!

Here's a quick pic of a Strat Ultra I picked up the other day for $800. I'll post some better pics when I get a chance.

Great score JasonSD! I hardly come across Ultras, like a did a few years ago (for a decent price) Have picked up a few nice Plus though. Just got a mint 1996 CAR with rosewood and a Midnight Blue (remember that color) with rosewood as well.

I picked up 4 guitars on CL this week alone. Luckily I have an understanding wife. lol. All were pretty cheap though. Got a 96 tex mex strat, a 97 Jimmie Vaughan Strat, the ultra, and a 2004 MIM Tele.

Has any of you been watching the prices of Strat Plus' and Ultras on ePay lately. Wow...one use to be able to get a clean one for around $750...seems like those days are gone.....

Hi, another Kiwi here!

Unfortunately I don't own a Plus anymore but I'm really enjoying the stories and photos.

I bought my first late 80's Plus in '91 at the Rock Shop in K Rd,Auckland costing about $NZ900. Maple neck, dark grey/blue-ish metallic finish (I always thought it was called gun metal blue). I loved that guitar so much, and so did everyone that played it (photos to come). Unfortunately it had to be sold to fund my OE in '94. Strangely the guitar was for sale on Trademe recently in a very sad state for a very high price $1500. I was tempted but it would have needed a lot of work.

My second Plus was bought new in Perth in '96, black with Rosewood neck, schaller tuners. As nice as it was I didn't love it like the first.... must have been the neck. I kept this one for a bit longer but was sold to buy a house in 2001.

One day I'll buy another, probably from the US when I visit the in-laws. In the meantime I'll keep dreaming, and play the Squire Tele custom that get the job done.

Matt
