That's because....... some times....... people swap bodies, or special ordered a color, or someone was smoking something who was working in the paint room at Fender, or was not wearing a paint mask???

Nice I have the same kind, a 91 deluxe in the same color, but mine has a maple neck, and the bridge pickup was swapped out to a Red Dually and wired up like an ultra. And I swapped the pickguard to a aged pearloid.

And I think you need to clean the fish tank. ;)

Yeah, it's got a real fine sparkle to it, looks more like it may have been hit with a lite coat of silver, then the burst was done. case is from the Jeff Beck Strat I just got. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50125

After ~11 years unplugged due to zero free time I grabbed this '90 Strat Plus, with case, and manuals off craigslist for $800 from a guy that lived less than a mile away. I was planning to just buy a new American standard strat and demoed one for a few hours a few days before I tried this one. The Plus just felt more substantial and smoother to play. It's paired with a Marshall MG30FX and I have been able to dial in the sounds I like pretty easy.
It's in really good shape minus the 1st owner drilling holes in the pickguard for a roland synth pickup.

It has the hipshot tremsetter, wilkerson roller (I like the look), schallers, and 3x gold laces with the body color in Black Pearl Dust.

I heard some were laminate. Any way to tell? Is it a bad thing?

This guy says it's a Pewter Burst so that answers one of my questions. His is a little earlier serial number to mine with a maple vs rosewood neck.

That's a nice plus you got there- love the colour. The guard looks very white though- has it been replaced at some point? same with the knobs etc.. what do you reckon?

Thanks! Not sure on any replacements. The previous owner did not swap them and he said the original owner was crazy obsessive about guitar care. It's in great shape all over except for the roland PU holes.

Actually Fender listed this color as Black Pearl Dust from 1988 through 1996....and discontinued it in 1997.

I used to have a golden brown stained '87 Strat Plus w/ rose wood fret board. I sold it for no good reason and I really miss it. If anyone knows of anyone who has it (Sold in Cattonsville, MD w/ Stacy Mitchart's signature "Stacy" on it) I like to get it back.

I have two strat plus's. one is a plus and one is an ultra.

the 1996 50th ann strat plus that i have is in mint condition and i've been open to trading it for another strat plus.

it has a rosewood fretboard and i've been looking for maple. that's the only reason.

i'm not sure how to post pictures on here but this is a link to them in my picasa album.

let me know if you want to make a deal!

Well, I learned something new by an email that was sent to me and an accumulation of evidence. I have often said that Mystic Black and Ebony Frost were the same color but different names used at different times by Fender. Ebony Frost is a transparent brown burst with almost a black around the edges and a brown see through finish in the middle showing an Ash veneer. It was used on both the Strat Plus and the Ultra guitars. The Ultra of course has Maple caps.

But Mystic Black is what I have called Black Jade in the past. It is a black that has a fine greenish flake in the clear coat, almost imperceptible unless in the right light. So you Strat Plus Ultra fans....new information that many people do not know much about! 8)
