Yours is in nice shape for a 87-88! If this was a solid color it would be Lipstick Red or the more pinkish dark red is Razzle Berry.

It must be the Lipstick Red, there's no pink at all in the color. Looks like I got a [/i]real closet classic, there is no fret wear at all, and no dings, dents or scratches. I have not pulled off the neck yet, but it does have one of the left over serial numbers E4+xxxxx. Hey, how many times you see something like this? http://www.gbase.com/gear/fender-strat-plus-1984-1#

I see these fairly often. Wow that Plus is dirty! Unlike yours! CAR is an interesting color, as it really does not have metal flake in the color or clear coats. It is done by putting down a silver metal flake base, first and then coating it with a transparent red, with several coats and then clear coated over that. That is why the colors can vary so much because 3 coats of the red color coat will be lighter than 4. Then the clear ages and darkens up too. Look at your guitar under direct light and see if it has some sparkle. If so it would be CAR. If not, and is a plain solild bright red, then it would be lipstick. Fiesta Red is a bit orange-red....so not that for sure.

That's not lipstick red, lipstick is a brighter red, I had a lipstick red, but wasn't digging the color, so got this red instead. I would agree that's a different version of CAR. It's a metallic type red for sure.

My 1988 Pewter Plus has the E4 serial as well.

I found some pics of my lipstick red body.

The body was pretty chipped up, but a guy in sweden bought it for $329. I was happy with that. :)

Wow, you sold that body to a guy in Sweden for that much? that was a good sale! Anyhow that is definitely Lipstick red! The 2nd post has a metallic sheen too it and looks like CAR, is that the same guitar??? Without a close inspection, it is hard to tell as the two colors are very close—one solid and the other with the silver base coat....

See my 1987 CAR Plus below. When you have it in the light, one can see the silver base coat pretty easy. Inside it is kind of hard. This one is darker than my 97 CAR Plus, but then again it has aged and the number of color coats changes them from guitar to guitar. This is not Midnight Wine, as I have had a lot of those and that is much darker than this. Man, this early 87 CAR is almost mint and I picked it up a long time ago on ePay for cheap. When I opened the case I was like, no way!!! I was a happy camper!

Wow, so close, eh? And then you try to look at these in the house, at night time, under incandescent lights, almost impossible to tell them apart! Do you actually own these picts? if so could you email them to me as I am building a collection of Plus body colors for my website.

You know what, now that I think about it, I had a Plus that was bright red like this and Fender took a Vintage White body and sprayed it with a CAR red color coat and then clear, so in essence it was a CAR with a cream white base coat instead of silver metallic. I need to see if I have picts....now I am wondering is Lipstick Red just might be that???

Well, I took the photos of the body on the right, I bought the body on the left off Ebay for $99 and those were the pics from the ad. I can take pics of that body if you need them.

Funny, the body on the right was on ebay at the same time I had the body on the right for sale. I sold the one on the left for $329 and bought the one on the right for $99. The guy had it listed as just a strat body, but said in the ad he didn't know what model it came from. I was the only one who bid on it.

Ok, I found the odd CAR body pictures. I wish I would have snapped a few of the trem cavity and the inside under the hood, as you could clearly see the vintage white finish with the transparent red coats on top. I sold this loaded body on eBay about a year ago due to the chips on the back. But if you look carefully of the pict of the back, round the screw holes for the neck plate, or on the inside of the neck socket, you can see the vintage white paint. Wonder if this was Lipstick red? It looked very deep and blood color....

yeah that looks closer to the lipstick red I had than to the other red I have. But my Lipstick red did have silver underneath it. It had a lot of chips in it too, and you could see thr Silver.

I always wondered if the darker red I have maybe had like a gold metallic layer under it. Hemi's photo of the front of the guitar captures the color better than my photo's do. But you can't really tell how metallic it looks in that pic.
