Can anybody tell me the first year that Strat Plus' were available in Sonic Blue?

1996 and then discontinued April of 1997 according to Fender's marketing brochures and their in-house data base. The guitar you have shown in the picture has been refinished as there is blue paint over the brass ferrules that the bridge post screw into. Have you seen any of these posts? You asked the questions but then never came back and responded....

Thanks for the info & apologies for the late response. As a new member my posts needed to be approved by mods before going online.

The guitar in question has a E9 neck which is why the sonic blue raised an eyebrow. I'm passing on this guitar.

Well Mr ZZ you headed home soon? Seems like the fender forum is not too busy of a place these days?

Hi guys! I'm a new first time owner of a Strat Plus. Actually a Strat Plus Deluxe. I've been a fan of these guitars since 1996 when I played a buddy's Blue Pearl Burst Strat. There have been a couple of times over the years where I could have bought a Strat Plus, but I never did and later regretted it.

I've read through all 100 pages of this thread in the past month and love all the pictures you guys have shared of your Strats. I would like to add a photo of mine to share with you all. It's an E9 serial and has Silver, Silver, Blue pups. I replaced the pick guard, but I didn't buy it with the original. What came on it was a Chandler pick guard that didn't fit flush with the body of the guitar in some places. I haven't checked to see if there is a trem setter on this one.

I have a question about the Wilkinson and LSR nuts that I'm hoping someone can answer. My Plus has a Wilkinson. Is it worth it to change it to an LSR? I see the LSR kit comes with the plastic piece that sits between the nut and the tuners. I think this looks ugly. Does anyone make a piece of maple that would fit in place instead of that hokey piece of plastic? Would the nut itself need to be shimmed or would the height match my Wilkinson nut?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum AfroBill .. beautiful guitar .. looks like a 2 tone burst, is it?

That's a LOT of reading to catch up on .. Xhefri, the Plus expert, has the best site

My advice is to stick with the Wilkinson if it's not broke .. or find a REALLY good luthier

No Maple inserts made that I know of

- Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the response! The picture might not show it too well, but it is Crimson Frost. I forgot to mention that in my first post.

I've read through Xhefri's pages on the Plus a few times now. It's been a great resource for information!

Xhefri should be back from abroad shortly. Find him on Facebook as well: Xhefri Guitars.

I is here... sitting my room in downtown Delhi, right next to the Iranian Embassy! :-) Serious!

What you have is one of those short lived Version I Strat Plus DXs in a fairly rare color called Crimson Frost. The Wilki nuts are great. But they need to be cleaned from time to time. I would take yours off and wash it with hot soapy water using a toothbrush. Dry it well and then use 2 drops of sowing machine (or equivalent) oil. These will get a buzz when they are dirty. Also make sure to feed the string through it properly. Also sometimes they need to be shimmed. I would avoid doing the conversion for the very reasons you are mentioning. And changing the nut will lover the value of a guitar that is in the last few years becoming more collectable. The black plastic on the LSR looks terrible on a maple neck IMHO.

BTW, some new info coming out on my website soon. Stay tuned!!!

A friend of mine was considering opening an eatery there and calling it 'The New Delhi Deli', until I reminded him that there was no way he was going to be able to market a hot corned beef sandwich on rye in that town.

Back to FL at noon, where I know I'm definitely going to find one. Packing it up now. More later. :D

Thanks for the tip about the cleaning, Xhefri! I know I can just unscrew the nut from the neck, but will I need to make any fine adjustments when re-installing it?

I've got a feed set up for Strat Pluses on Reverb. This one popped up today. Says it's an all original Deluxe but there are a lot of discrepancies to that in the pictures and info provided!

Nope, you just need to carefully watch how it comes apart. There might be a 1/2 shim on one side or the other. The screw holes will line it right back up.
