Decided to leave the roller nut tuners etc buy changed out the emgs that the previous owner had installed for some abigail custom shop 69's, sounding better than ever now!

This turned out very nice. Lol, but I have a bias as my own player Strat plus is Vintage White with rosewood fret board and wilki nut. Looks great!

Strat Plus Beck? I don't think so.

Back in the mid-1980s Fender talked with Jeff about the established idea of a signature model bearing his name. El Becko declined the offer as opposed to his bandmate Eric Clapton who became the first Fender endorsee to have an Artist series guitar. The JB prototype eventually evolved into the Strat Plus.

In 1991 Jeff changed his mind opting for a signature guitar based on the Strat Plus with some juicy refinements such as a fat baseball bat neck and an HSS configuration with coil tap and split. Pickups were Gold Lace Sensors with a humbucking Lace Sensor "Dually" in the bridge position and a special push-push button to cut the front coil from the humbucker.

The colours available for this model were Surf Green, Vintage White and Midnight Purple, with Mystic Black being only offered on the custom shop version of the guitar and the regular production Pluses.

During the mid-90s Fender built a new guitar for him featuring a set of custom-wound stacked humbuckers designed by John Suhr and a thinner neck mounted into an olympic white body; it was in 2007 Jeff vowed a return to the fat baseball bat necks and the old Wilkinson roller nut, prompting the folks at the CS to swap the thin C-shape neck for a fat bat neck from a midnight purple '93. This guitar remained unaltered until the change to the reverse headstock in late 2013/early 2014.

'mojoredfoot', who has not posted anything since 2012, is the thread's OP. He is not the subject of my last comment though.

Can't beat them apples for a complete makeover. Wonder if Colm's got the hair to go with the guitar :?:

Don't think I've quite got Jeffs hair style down yet. Here's a pic of me playing the Start in its gold form during the summer! Think it looks so much better now.

Hello,

I was playing my Ultra the other day, when suddenly bang, no more sound from the neck Blue Lace sensor pickup.
I took the pickguard away and looked at the soldering bu they seemed okay, I redid the anyway where the neck pu is connected. At first I had some sound but very faintly, and now it's totally gone (or really really faint). I was wondering what are the chances that the pu is dead? I'm not much into guitar fixing, so I thought I'd ask some advice before changing the pu (I can easily have a replacement blue Lace in case).

Here's a pic of the pickguard (don't know if its of any help):

I would check the selector switch first, it is more likely the switch would go bad before a pickup.

Lace Sensors are famous for going BANG, then stop working. I just bought a batch a few weeks back (I am a Lace dealer) and have a Burgundy die after 2 weeks. Bad thing was, it was shipped to Australia and put in a guitar there. So I sent him a new one and that one was replaced. And then BANG it died again. It was sent back to me and then on to Lace with a new replacement. Lace Senors are sensitive to getting bumped. So I would say it is a 90% chance that the pickup died. Test it with an ohm meter. Maybe it could be a solder joint, but I doubt it. I have fixed a lot of bad pickups in Ultra and Strat Plus guitars.

Thanks for you replies, I finally decided to bring the guitar to my guitar shop, it turned out that the pickup is good, but some soldering had gone bad, even though the tech guy admitted that they looked good and it was difficult to tell which one was at fault. Anyway he redid everything clean, so I should be good to go for some time :)

Good news! And lucky for you. Like I mentioned, most of the time it is a bad pickup. Have another one sitting here on my desk that just came in from Lace as a replacement for a dead one!

I have several mid 80s strats.... An American Standard customized by John Carutthers, a Strat Plus, and this thing I just picked up over the weekend. Looks like an original American Standard with Plus electronics, and original Don Lace branded AGI pickups. I have a few people researching but this is a unique one. Great polished maple neck, Standard tuners, Standard trem, and these AGIs. Anyone else ever see Don Lace branded pickups come out of the Fender factory in early 87?

Any information on these would be great. Thanks!!
